Yesterday (20 January 2025), the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office had the German nationals

Paul M. Paula P. Luca S. Moritz S. and Clara W.

The arrested individuals are strongly suspected of membership in a criminal organisation (section 129 para. 1 of the German Criminal Code [StGB]) and jointly committed dangerous bodily harm (section 223 para. 1, section 224 para. 1 nos. 1 to 5 of the StGB). Paul M., Paula P. and Luca S. were allegedly also aiders and abettors to dangerous bodily harm (section 27 of the StGB). Nele A., Paula P. and Moritz S. are believed to have acted as minors. In a separate incident, Paul M. is strongly suspected of membership in a criminal organisation, dangerous bodily harm (section 223 para. 1, section 224 para. 1 nos. 2 and 4 of the StGB), criminal damage (section 303 of the StGB), forgery of documents (section 267 para. 1 of the StGB) and attempted dangerous interference with road traffic (section 315b para. 1 no. 2, para. 2 and para. 3 in conjunction with section 315 para. 3 no. 1b, sections 22, 23 of the StGB).
1.
In essence, the arrest warrants issued against all suspects set out the following facts:
All suspects were members of a left-wing extremist organisation, which Simeon T. (see Press Release No. 11 of 22 March 2024, Hanna S. (see Press Release No. 49 of 8 October 2024) and Johann G. (see Press Release No. 66 of 9 November 2024) were also affiliated with. In February 2023, the organisation committed acts of physical assault in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, namely against individuals who the attackers considered to be members of the political right. The incidents occurred on the so-called 'Tag der Ehre' ('Day of Honour'), an annual gathering of right-wing extremists from all over Europe in Budapest to commemorate the Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, and their Hungarian collaborators' attempt to break through the lines of the Red Army's siege on 11 February 1945.
On the morning of 9 February 2023, Nele A. and Paul M. attacked a man on a train at a Budapest train station and sprayed him with pepper spray. Shortly thereafter, Nele A., Paul M. and Clara W. participated in an assault against three individuals outside a café: The suspects and other members of the organisation repeatedly kicked and beat the victims with batons and other striking tools. The victims sustained contusions, bruises and some bone fractures.
On 10 February 2023, Nele A., Moritz S. and Clara W., in concert with other members of the organisation, attacked an individual on a public square from behind. Moritz S. and Clara W. used a baton and a kubotan to repeatedly and specifically hit the victim's head and torso while other co-perpetrators pinned the person to the ground. Nele A. gave the orders and shielded the attack from passers-by. Paul M., Paula P. and Luca S. supported this act by spying out the victim ahead of time. The victim sustained multiple contusions to his cranium and torso as well as various lacerations to the head. In the late evening hours of that day, Paul M., Luca S. and Clara W., in concert with other members of the organisation, were tailing two individuals who they attacked from behind in a public street. The attackers sprayed an unknown substance in the victims' faces and repeatedly punched them. One victim fell to the ground after sustaining a blow to the head. Although he was lying on the sidewalk unconsciously, the group continued to hit his head and entire body with a striking tool. The victim sustained multiple facial and cranial fractures.
2.
An additional arrest warrant against Paul M. sets out the following facts:
Paul M. is part of an organisation which was formed in and around Leipzig and whose members share a militant, left-wing extremist ideology. Between 2018 and 2020, the organisation with a supra-regional network committed violent assaults on individuals who they viewed as members of the 'right-wing scene'. The acts were usually preceded by extensive preparations. For instance, they included advance surveillance of the lifestyle habits of the victims they had selected. Paul M., in concert with Lina E. (see Press Release No. 25 of 28 May 2021) and Johann G. (see Press Release No. 66 of 9 November 2024), assumed a senior position within the organisation. He was namely involved in plotting possible attacks and in charge of storing instruments of crime. Furthermore, he completed combat training orchestrated by the group and participated personally in the following violent attack:
On 14 December 2019, Paul M. and other assailants attacked the owner of a restaurant in Eisenach. The restaurant was a supposed meeting place of the 'right-wing scene'. Prior to the attack, the group surveilled the restaurant and followed the victim to his apartment in Eisenach, where the perpetrators beat him with batons, a hammer, a wheel nut wrench and bars. Subsequently, the group attacked the victim's three companions who had fled into their vehicle. The assailants damaged the vehicle with their striking tools, sprayed an irritant through the shattered windows and punched the passengers multiple times. Moreover, they repeatedly rammed their bars and batons in the direction of the victims, seriously injuring them. Following the attack, the perpetrators fled in two vehicles to which they had previously attached stolen license plates. In order to shake off police vehicles in pursuit, they threw plastic bags on the road.
Yesterday evening (20 January 2025) and this morning (21 January 2025), Luca S. and Paula P. were brought before the Investigating Judge at the Federal Court of Justice who read out the arrest warrants to them and ordered that they be placed in pre-trial detention. The other suspects are to be brought before the Investigating Judge at the Federal Court of Justice later today.
