(Erfurt, 01 April 2019). 3D printing has already disrupted business processes, and this transformation will only intensify in future. One example is provided by packaging machine manufacturer Schubert, based in Crailsheim. The company has embraced additive technologies, and not just to equip its system components with functions and features that were previously not possible: it also supplies its customers in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries with one-off and replacement parts in very short timescales, such as custom grippers for machines on demand - similar to the business model of music streaming service Spotify. How exactly "Spotify by Schubert" works and the benefits to providers and users is one of the topics on the agenda for the Software & Processes forum on the second day of Rapid.Tech + FabCon 3.D, which will take place for the 16th year in a row at Messe Erfurt from 25 to 27 June 2019.
A whole forum is being dedicated to software and processes for the first time this year. "This exclusive position underscores the importance of data, processes and systems to the success of additive manufacturing, or AM for short. Alongside the preparation of design data and the optimum configuration of processes both within and between companies, the growing application of AM is bringing aspects such as secure data exchange, intellectual property and counterfeit protection for products further into focus, not to mention the need for trustworthy, secure supply chains. Experts from industry and research will present best practice approaches in these areas," says Dr Martin Holland from PROSTEP AG, who is responsible for curating the content of the new forum.
The lectures will cover a broad spectrum of processes, from adapting the design of internal development and production processes to 3D printing, establishing secure processes between several partners, to new disruptive business models that are only possible thanks to additive manufacturing (AM). The talk from 3D software developer Autodesk promises a (r)evolutionary approach to additive design. Meanwhile the presentation from Dassault Systèmes will examine product and process optimisation for additive manufacturing. Speakers from NXP Semiconductors and the University of Hamburg will explain how blockchain technologies contribute to counterfeit protection, product traceability and the non-editable documentation of production parameters. This talk will also cover the licensing of printing processes with the aid of blockchain technology. Tracking a physical product to its digital twin using additive marking is the subject of a presentation by the company of the same name. A representative of the German Aerospace Center will speak on software-assisted component identification as a key element of an AM strategy. The development of a virtual warehouse for additively manufactured industrial parts is the idea behind the company 3Dpartzz. Their lecture will outline how this new business model will make 3D printing appealing to medium-sized companies.
The Software & Processes forum is one of three new events in the Rapid.Tech + FabCon 3.D conference programme. Plastics and Standardization & Occupational Safety are also appearing on the agenda for the first time. Overall, in 14 sector-specific forums, there will be more than 100 lectures presenting the latest developments, trends and findings relating to additive technologies and applications in theory and practice. Alongside the new events, the programme will also feature the established favourites Automotive Industry; Medical, Dental & Orthopaedic Technology; Aviation; Contract Additive Manufacturing; 3D Printed Electronics & Functions; Design; Tool, Mould & Jig Construction; Metal; and Law. As in previous years, a session by the Fraunhofer Additive Manufacturing Alliance and the two-day AM Science forum are further highlights on the agenda.
The 3D Printing Conference and the redesigned presentation spaces and networking opportunities in the exhibition will also help attendees to share their knowledge and experiences and to build and maintain their networks.
For their 16th edition, Rapid.Tech + FabCon 3.D are yet again expecting over 200 exhibitors from Germany and abroad, as well as more than 5,000 international trade visitors and conference delegates.
