„Convergence - disruptive and established industries meet to create a responsible future“
Registration now open!
The Platform for Additive Manufacturing and Advanced Technologies invites you to the international competition in its seventh edition! The call is open to innovative companies, students and start-ups who are brave enough to pave the path for technology transfer that will enable sustainable production in the future.
The largest international design award of its kind will be announced as part of Rapid.Tech 3D (Messe Erfurt, 17-19 May 2022), the pioneer and future hub for AM.
Rapid.Tech 3D is a creative meeting point for start-ups as well as for experts and industry giants in additive manufacturing
FOKUS 2022
„Convergence - disruptive and established industries meet to create a responsible future“
When complementary fields join forces, this convergence can evolve to something meaningful!
Additive manufacturing has more than achieved a “proof of concept” status throughout the last decade. Disruptive technologies offer a whole range of functional, project-specific one-offs and have been tested in numerous verticals.
The established industry faces rising challenges of their future-proof and social impact and the need of responsible manufacturing. Not least the Green Deal is pushing to respond to the inevitable development towards sustainability.
Advanced Technologies such as 3D printing can enable solutions to this challenge – when implementing them strategically into established processes.
The concept of sustainability has multilayered implications – ranging from the economic to ecologic. But, underpinning all of these layers is that sustainability needs to appeal-to, and be driven by a responsible human mindset.
The 3D Pioneers Challenge addresses pioneers brave enough to pave the path for technology-transfer that will enable sustainable production in the future. This technology-transfer is unlocked as a spectrum ranging from those who take wise-incremental steps in established industry, to those who are inventing brand new concepts in the entrepreneurial start-ups and academic sectors.
The disciplines announced for the award are derived from the questions „WHAT, HOW and WHY ... we design and make“. For 2022 there are Design, Digital, Architecture, FashionTech, Materials, MedTech, Mobility, Electronics, Machinery and Sustainability.
The 3DPC invites interested parties, till the submussion deadline of 14 March 2022, to use the platform. Present. Meet. Converge – to create together a better, responsible future. Let´s be pioneers and push the boundaries.
Awards
The participants await prizes worth over 150.000 €.
The prize money of €35,000 is kindly supported by the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs Science and Digital Society. The 3D Pioneers Challenge is one of the world's most highly endowed design competitions for innovation in Additive Manufacturing processes.
As a highlight, the "3DPC Trophy" will be awarded to the "Main Winner". The limited design object created especially for the 3DPC was realised in cooperation with jury member Ross Lovegrove as well as Hyperganic, the winner of "3DPC 2019 Digital" and partner Materialise.
The 3DPC generally stands for bundling expertise and tools from its network of partners and thus opening up opportunities for participants to implement and advance innovations and ideas.
Therefore this year the 3DPC partners will provide 3D printers (MakerBot - SKETCH 3D printer, Formlabs - Form 3 printer and Ultimaker - S5 Pro Bundle) as well as software licences (nTopology "nTop Full version").
Book prizes from HUBS and av edition, the publishing house for architecture and design, round off the prize packages.
EXHIBITION and AWARD CEREMONY
For 3DPC2022, the best elements from the onsite exhibition and virtual presentation will be used and will take place as a hybrid event with an awards ceremony during Rapid.Tech 3D (17-19 May 2022).
3DPC & FRIENDS and SPECIAL FEATURE
After last year's successful premiere, entrants can once again benefit from the "Special Feature by nTopology". With this feature, nTopology provides its platform for forward-looking design and engineering software available free of charge during the competition. With this innovative tool, ideas and concepts for the competition can be realised and taken to the next level. Accompanying tutorials are offered by nTopology. With this cooperation, 3DPC starts early in the process chain and can support as an enabler in the field of education.
JURY and PARTNER
The 3DPC also brings together the disruptive and established industry as well as the focus on sustainability in the jury board. The 30 specialists contribute their expertise in the respective disciplines and stand for the quality of the award.
Advanced Technologies are becoming increasingly relevant to society and politics. This year's jury includes representatives such as Karsten Feller, State Secretary of the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society, and Mario Brandenburg, Spokesman for the free democrates for science, technology and innovation in the German Bundestag.
Jurors such as Sonja Rasch from Materialise or Stefanie Brickwede from Mobility goes Additive and Deutsche Bahn are once again part of the panel, as well as Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christiane Beyer from Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, who has dedicated herself to the topic of "innovative product development with disruptive technologies".
Cooperation partners from industry and research support with jury members such as Dr. Karsten Heuser Vice President Additive Manufacturing at Siemens, Dr Dirk Simon from Farsoon Europe or Frank Beckmann from Fraunhofer IAPT.
The verticals of design and architecture are covered by the German Design Council with Lutz Dietzold, the designer Ross Lovegrove and the architectural firm Zaha Hadid Architects with CEO Patrik Schumacher and Shajay Bhooshan, responsible for their "Computational Design Research Group".
Dr. Cora Lüders-Theuerkauf from Medical goes Additive e.V., Andreas Velten from IFA3D Medical Solutions, and Prof. Shlomo Magdassi from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will support the MedTech and Materials section.
Victoria San Fratello from Emerging Objects, herself a multiple award winner of the 3DPC, Marie-Lucie Linde from "Sustainable Natives" and Carina Lebsack from Würth GmbH & Co KG will contribute their know-how to the cross-category discipline of sustainability.
The entrants will present to industry experts, not least the Autodesk Technology Center team and AMVentures, which push start-ups for industrial 3D printing.
