Axel Springer Akademie wins European Newspaper Award
Berlin (ots)
Team 11 of the Axel Springer Akademie has been awarded the European Newspaper Award in the online category for its website www.zoom-berlin.com. The award is one of the most important competitions of this kind in Europe.
For their cross-media project, the young journalists placed a single street in the focus of an entire website for the first time ever, thereby setting standards in so-called hyperlocal journalism. The jury's decision states: "The jury noticed the innovation at zoom-berlin.com straight away. The central focus is one single street. The aerial photo on the homepage takes you directly to texts, films and historical documents. You can always delve deeper into the stories if you want to. Very good navigation, modern overall picture. Without doubt a website you can learn a lot from."
The European Newspaper Awards will be presented in Vienna at the beginning of May next year. "We are very excited. This is a wonderful success and underscores our claim of providing optimal training for journalists in the digital age", says Marc Thomas Spahl, Director of the Academy. "A great compliment to the whole team, also to those colleagues who helped support the project."
On zoom-berlin.com, the young reporters are using all the opportunities offered by cross-media journalism today and developing new and creative approaches to digital storytelling. The site contains numerous reports, exclusive background reports and interviews. In addition there are interactive graphics, audio slideshows, more than 60 videos and the continual integration of users, both on the website itself and through social media. The Axel Springer Akademie, which is also the publisher's think tank, has won numerous awards for its projects, including the Grimme Online Award and the CeBIT AppStar.
