BAM@Hannover Messe: Start-up with BAM Know-how
24.04.2018. A good idea in science can become a successful business model. At the Hannover Messe, the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) will present its initiative BAMStartup Slingshot that supports start-ups on their journey towards building their own company.
BAM's start-up initiative focuses on supporting spin-offs in the fields of analytical chemistry and materials chemistry among others. Start-ups can benefit from BAM's laboratory facilities and equipment, testing services and scientific expertise in implementing their ideas.
"We advise and support those interested in founding a new business at every step towards setting up their company," explains Hagen-Joachim Saxowski, head of BAM's Research Services section. The initiative is aimed at BAM Ph.D. students, scientists and alumni, as well as external collaboration partners and start-up teams.
BAMStartup Slingshot is the name of BAM's start-up initiative, which provides support services for start-up teams. The key components of the initiative include advice on funding, patents, software and licenses. In addition, BAM provides its infrastructure, equipment and laboratory services and supports them with its expertise in quality management, occupational safety and risk assessment.
The case of Belyntic shows how successful BAM can be in supporting chemistry start-ups. The young company has developed a new purification method for chemically synthesised peptides that can simplify laboratory work. Their catch & release method can simultaneously purify a large number of peptides without the need for expensive laboratory equipment. Right from the start, Belyntic received BAM's support in terms of its expertise in occupational safety and quality management and through access to the excellent research infrastructure at BAM's Adlershof branch.
