The Climate Working Group of Schiller-Gymnasium in Offenburg held a pedal-powered cinema event for students in the second year and above. The cinema event was completely energy-independent thanks to pedal power. The electricity needed to play the film was produced using ten bicycles. Pupils and teachers took turns cycling during the film to generate enough electricity for the cinema experience. Those attending the cinema event actively supported the Climate Working Group by also taking turns in the saddle.

Koehler Group Raises Awareness of a Sustainable Approach to the Environment and Energy

The Koehler Group supported the “Pedal-Powered Cinema” project. Jens Kriete, the Koehler Group sustainability manager, explains why the company was keen to get involved: “Sustainability is a basic guiding principle for the way we do business and we want to support the generations to come and pave the way for them to approach our environment in an environmentally sound and socially responsible manner. The pedal-powered cinema is a wonderful illustration of the fact that nearly everything we do requires energy.” The organizers also looked after guests’ physical wellbeing, with popcorn and drinks being provided for the full cinema experience.

The Koehler group is a dynamic, independent family business. Sustainability is a basic guiding principle for the way the Koehler Group does business, a cornerstone of the company’s strategy, and therefore an integral part of the organization. By 2030, the company has set itself the goal with the “Koehler Promise” of generating more renewable energy from its own sources than is required for its paper production operations.
