Koehler Paper, part of the Koehler Group, has added “Koehler NexPlus® Seal WVB” to its portfolio of innovative flexible packaging paper in the NexPlus® product line. “Koehler NexPlus® Seal WVB” is a heat-sealable paper which boasts a vapor barrier as its functional layer, thereby offering optimal product protection. The barrier paper is used as primary and secondary packaging and is suitable for a variety of food and non-food products. These include household items like dishwasher tabs, washing powder and bath tabs. Koehler Paper will be showcasing the product to the public for the first time at the Fachpack trade fair in Nuremberg from September 24–26, 2024 at booth 310 in Hall 3a.

The Switch to NexPlus® Barrier Paper Is Easy and Saves Resources

“Koehler NexPlus® Seal WVB” is produced with a grammage of 75 gsm. Thanks to its outstanding strength properties, excellent sealability, and optimal runnability “Koehler NexPlus® Seal WVB” is ideally suited for processing on all conventional converting and packaging machines—particularly for gravure and flexographic printing. The barrier paper is made from 100-percent certified virgin fiber pulp, which means it is equally suitable for direct contact with food. “Our goal is to provide the best possible protection for the product while minimizing the use of resources,” explains Christoph Wachter, Director of Flexible Packaging Paper at Koehler Paper. “As we are already focusing on making our NexPlus® barrier paper recyclable and compatible with systems, we are now offering packaging alternatives, which can meet the requirements of the EU Green Deal and the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.” What’s more, paper-based packaging also has the highest recycling rate out of all materials in Europe.

Sustainable packaging: Innovative Paper Solutions with “NexFlex®” from Koehler Paper

The research and development team from Koehler Innovation & Technology worked with the experts from Koehler Paper to develop the NexFlex® product range, a unique and recyclable generation of flexible packaging paper. The aim here is to replace plastic in packaging by using so-called barrier paper wherever possible. The range covers a broad spectrum: It includes standard coated and uncoated paper used in laminates for pouches, sachets, and other applications, making them suitable for a wide range of packaging for food and non-food products. The next generation of paper for flexible packaging are sustainable barrier paper with functional surfaces for product-specific protection (Koehler NexPlus®). The NexFlex® product family also includes paper coated on one side with good dimensional stability and high smoothness (Koehler NexCoat®), as well as uncoated paper with a natural appearance (Koehler NexPure®). Various flexible packaging paper from Koehler Paper were awarded the “Made for Recycling” seal by the environmental service provider Interzero.
