The Koehler Group was recently awarded platinum status by internationally renowned sustainability assessment platform EcoVadis. This puts the family business in the top one percent of all rated companies worldwide in the mechanical pulp, chemical pulp, paper, board, and cardboard manufacturing industry. In fact, the Koehler Group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) assessment resulted in an extraordinary score of 90 points on a scale of 100.

Sub-goal of sustainability strategy for 2030 achieved already

“This rating recognizes our achievements and performance as a company with international operations when it comes to establishing responsible business processes and consistently driving sustainable development,” says Koehler Group Sustainability Manager Jens Kriete. In fact, the excellent score was the result of the company standing out thanks to its sustainable procurement strategies and extraordinarily ambitious commitment to climate protection. For example, in its sustainability strategy, the Koehler Group promises to generate more energy from its own renewable sources by 2030 than required for its paper production operations. Moreover, the EcoVadis rating was one of the goals that the Koehler Group had firmly established in its sustainability strategy: “With this score, we’ve already exceeded the sustainability target of an EcoVadis score of 80 that we had set for ourselves as a goal for 2030 in our strategy.”

EcoVadis, a leading platform in sustainability assessments, analyzed the CSR performance of more than 130,000 companies based on 21 criteria that conform to international standards such as UN Global Compact principles and the ISO 26000 standard. EcoVadis makes it possible for companies to transparently present their sustainability performance and position themselves as responsible businesses. As for CSR (corporate social responsibility), the term refers to self-regulating business practices that measure the impact of an organization’s activities on society and the environment and that are becoming increasingly important for global business relationships.
