euromicron AG - 1st Quarter 2000
euromicron AG, the innovative supplier of fibre optic technology and energy management systems, increased Group sales in the first quarter of the financial year 2000 by 49.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, taking it to a total of DM 83.1 million. This increase was driven by strategic acquisitions and dynamic growth in the company's core business areas.
Despite high market development costs, pre-tax earnings (EBT) increased by 6.9% to DM 3.1 million. Earnings per share (EPS) were DM 0.24.
In the fibre optic technology division, the EBT improved by 9.5% to DM 2.3 million. The completion of the value creation chain as a result of the acquisitions made in the fourth quarter of 1999 should already have a positive impact on results in the current financial year.
Substantial expenditure on personnel and on building up the sales and marketing function to exploit the US market for energy management systems resulted in a loss of DM 0.7 million in the energy management division. The company anticipates reaching the break-even point in this important segment during the course of the current year.
Dr. Willibald Späth, who took over the position of Chief Executive Officer of euromicron AG in April, considers his main priority to be the continued expansion of the company as a high-tech Group with strong earnings and strong growth. As well as an active M&A strategy, proceeding to schedule, and intensive communications with the financial community, this also involves realising the potential synergies that exist within the Group. In order to improve transparency for investors and to document the new corporate strategy, the activities in the fibre optic technology and energy management divisions as well as in the Group's various shareholdings have been reclassified.
