AVM at CeBIT 2003: FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB
AVM Expands FRITZ!Card DSL Family with New USB Model
High-Tech ADSL with an Extensive Software Package
Berlin/Hanover (ots)
AVM has added a new USB adapter for the ADSL line to its FRITZ!Card DSL product family. The new FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB, no larger than a mobile phone, connects the PC directly to the ADSL network. The comprehensive FRITZ!DSL software ensures secure, high-speed web surfing over ADSL, with firewall security, Internet sharing in the LAN, counters for data volume and on-line time, and detailed ADSL diagnostics. Moreover, the integrated traffic shaping function permits simultaneous uploading and downloading at full speed. The new USB adapter is the fourth member of the FRITZ!Card DSL family: users now have a choice of internal or external controllers for ADSL, or for ADSL and ISDN.
FRITZ!Card DSL Family for Full Surfing Convenience on the ADSL Line
The new FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB is the fourth member in AVM's family of ADSL products. The award-winning original FRITZ!Card DSL is an internal PCI card connecting the PC to both ADSL and ISDN, while FRITZ!Card DSL SL is designed for pure ADSL communication. Both of these controllers are now available in USB variants. The complete FRITZ!Card DSL family thus includes:
* FRITZ!Card DSL: Internal adapter for ADSL and ISDN * FRITZ!Card DSL USB: USB adapter for ADSL and ISDN * FRITZ!Card DSL SL: Pure ADSL adapter for the PCI bus * FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB: Plug & play USB adapter for ADSL
All FRITZ!Card DSL products contain an extensive software package for convenient, secure high-speed websurfing.
Standard Equipment: ADSL Traffic Shaping
FRITZ!Card DSL products are the only ADSL terminal equipment to incorporate the ADSL traffic shaping function. This feature permits simultaneous uploads and downloads with full ADSL speed. With conventional ADSL modems that do not provide traffic shaping, outgoing data such as e-mail or eDonkey file sharing slows concurrent downloads noticeably. In FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB, ADSL traffic shaping is activated by default, and automatically determines the transmission speed for optimum data communication.
Added Value through Extensive Software
Like all of AVM's ADSL products, FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB comes with an extensive software package that offers high value for users: firewall mechanisms protect the PC during Internet connections, while built-in ADSL sharing connects all PCs in the LAN to the Internet. Budgets for on-line time and data volume permit exact control of the connection costs. For day-to-day ADSL use, AVM provides two practical, user-friendly programs for Internet access and for comprehensive ADSL diagnostics, FRITZ!web DSL and ADSLWatch. Users can thus monitor the status of the ADSL connection, including the theoretical maximum and actually attained throughput rates, and the use of Interleaving or Fast Path communication modes. The complete product thus includes everything needed to begin faster surfing over ADSL, even for beginners.
First Terminal Device with Configurable LED-Fast Path Status Display Capability
FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB is equipped with a configurable LED that can display individually selected information, such as whether limited free on-line hours or data volume has been exhausted, or whether Fast Path mode is active. FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB supports Fast Path mode and thus permits significantly shorter ping delays than ADSL modems connected to the PC through a network adapter. Short ping times-that is, rapid response to data requests-are especially important to on-line gamers.
Suitable for All T-DSL Lines
AVM's USB adapter connects the PC to the ADSL splitter directly, and is suitable for all DSL lines that conform to the German U-R2 standard. FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB supports the maximum possible ADSL throughput rate of 8 Mbit/s, and is thus ready for all current and future T-DSL offerings of Deutsche Telekom AG, including the new T-DSL 2300. Thanks to its powerful digital signal processor, FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB has outstanding transmission and reception capabilities. Furthermore, with power consumption of about two watts-and that only when the PC is on-the new AVM product is one of the most economical DSL terminal devices. The adapter is powered from the USB port, and needs no separate power supply. FRITZ!Card DSL SL USB is designed for PCs with a Pentium III CPU or above, and for the operating systems Windows XP, Me, 2000, 98, 98 SE, and Linux.
