AVM at CeBIT 2003: KEN! III
KEN! III Optimizes ISDN and ADSL Communication for LAN Use
Web and Mail with Spam Filter, Virus Checking and ADSL Traffic Shaping

Berlin/Hanover (ots)

KEN! III, AVM's newest networking software,
makes its debut at CeBIT. KEN! III provides Internet access, e-mail,
fax and ISDN to every PC workstation in the network, with only using
one PC connected to the ISDN and/or ADSL line. In LANs that are
already connected to the Internet through a router, KEN! III adds an
e-mail and proxy server. KEN! III makes it simple to stop spam and to
filter web content by topic, and also optimizes the ADSL line speed
through ADSL traffic shaping. KEN! III merges two AVM products, KEN!
and KEN! DSL, into one.
KEN! III: The Internet Connection for Small Networks
KEN! III is tailored to the requirements of small LANs, and
delivers WWW, e-mail, ISDN, telefax and more to every PC workstation.
KEN! III shares an ADSL/ISDN line with the entire LAN, allowing all
PCs to use web and e-mail services. Every user has an individual
e-mail address, and KEN! III saves costs by delivering internal mail
directly, without sending it over the Internet. Mail forwarding,
fax-to-mail and voice-to-mail capabilities ensure that all messages
reach their intended recipients, even when they are out of the
office. Furthermore, every workstation can use the full range of ISDN
services, since KEN! III supplies the ISDN interface CAPI to every
PC. This means that every user can send faxes from a word processor,
or use the PC as an answering machine.
KEN! III: For Security and Speed in the LAN
As a proxy server, KEN! III mediates between the PCs in the local
network and servers in the Internet, attaining a tangible increase in
surfing speed. All web pages already requested by browsers in the LAN
are available immediately, and do not have to be fetched again over
the Internet. Furthermore, ADSL traffic shaping optimizes data flow
during simultaneous uploads and downloads. Other functions, such as a
firewall, dynamic channel bundling, and fall-back to alternative
access providers, ensure a robust Internet connection free of
bottlenecks. Bluetooth PCs can also be easily integrated in the LAN:
KEN! III is designed for use with the Bluetooth networking profile
PAN.
KEN! III: Useful Addition to Networks with Routers
If there is already a router in use in the LAN, KEN! III
complements its simple Internet connection with mail and proxy server
capabilities The e-mail service provided by KEN! III offers
convenient features such as internal mail, e-mail forwarding, spam
filtering and cost-cutting mail transport during an existing Internet
connection. KEN III's spam filter eliminates undesired commercial
e-mail automatically, without requiring complicated configuration
settings. KEN! III also provides distributed virus protection for the
entire LAN, with centralized updating of virus signatures. On-line
costs for the ADSL line can be monitored based on time and volume
budgets. The administrator can also filter complete topics from web
content: this is an important capability for companies with trainees,
which are under obligation to protect minors. As a tool for
intelligent distribution of resources, KEN III also permits
user-specific Internet access restrictions. Last but not least, the
CAPI interface on every PC provides the full range of ISDN
convenience features.
