In this podcast you will learn how BASF is
developing technologies with which CO2 can be separated out from flue
gases.
In order that less CO2 is emitted into the air, we have to use
fossil fuels in a more economic and efficient way. But in the future,
there could also be an additional way to avoid CO2 emissions. BASF is
developing technologies with which the CO2 can be separated out from
flue gases, like those in power plants for instance. This technology
is also called gas scrubbing. One idea is to pump the CO2 separated
out into underground geological formations and then store it there
permanently. Carbon capture and storage - CCS - is the name of this
method that could be an option for climate protection.
BASF Corporate Communications started a regular bilingual Podcast
service in April 2007 to report on BASF's innovations and research
and development activities in an easy-to-understand, informative and
entertaining way.

BASF Podcast: The Chemical Reporter - Why do cherries burst when it rains?

Ludwigshafen (ots) - The whole point of the skin of a cherry is to keep that from bursting. The smooth, slippery envelope protects the fruit from falling prey to funguses or microbes, and water usually just slides right off of one. But the rainstorms feared by fruit-growers are a different matter. ...
