Berlin, September 26, 2023 - The experienced documentary expert Martin Pieper will strengthen the team of gebrueder beetz Filmproduktion as International Producer from 01.10. 2023. He comes from ZDF, where he headed the ZDF/ARTE editorial departments "Culture and Science", "THEMA" most recently "News/ARTE" for more than 20 years. In his new role, he is responsible for the international co-production activities of gebrueder beetz Filmproduktion and will be instrumental in furthering the internationalization of the content of the award-winning production company. He reports to producer and managing director Christian Beetz.

With over two decades of experience in the international documentary industry, Martin Pieper brings with him impressive expertise and a deep understanding of the complex challenges and opportunities of the documentary market. The engagement of Martin Pieper follows the previous successful collaboration with gebrueder beetz Filmproduktion on the Armenian Academy Award® entry AURORA’S SUNRISE and the multi-award winning documentaries GAZA and THE LAND OF THE ENLIGHTENED, which were nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

In his career to date, Martin Pieper has worked with renowned and award-winning documentary directors and producers, including Eugene Jarecki ("Reagan," "The House I Live In"), Alex Gibney ("Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God"), Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith ("The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers"), Liz Garbus ("Bobby Fischer Against the World"), Janus Metz ("Camp Armadillo"), Christian Frei ("The Giant Buddhas," "Space Tourists," "Genesis 2.0.") and Sam Hobkinson ("Misha and the Wolves").

Martin Pieper has been involved in numerous international initiatives, such as the international programming focuses with numerous award-winning productions WHY DEMOCRACY, WHY SLAVERY and WHY PLASTIC by initiative THE WHY, which is dedicated to the promotion of human rights through journalistically based documentaries. Furthermore he was engaged in the project GENERATION AFRICA, which tells of migration experiences from the perspective of the African youth and was created in collaboration with local African authors and directors. In addition, he was a member of the EBU Documentary Expert Group for more than 10 years and a member of the allocation committee of MFG film funding Baden-Württemberg until 2022.

He received the Grimme Award for the ZDF/ARTE series "INTO THE NIGHT WITH/DURCH DIE NACHT MIT...". He has been a member of the international jury at the Aarhus Film Festival and Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, an expert at EAVE, Eurodocs, EDN, Documentary Campus and many more, has led and co-directed workshops on documentary film in Algiers, the Film Studies Institute of the University of Mainz or the Georg von Vollmar Academy and has been a guest lecturer at the Film Academy Ludwigsburg .
