Logline ETERNAL YOU
Startups are using AI to create avatars that allow relatives to talk with their loved ones after they have died. An exploration of a profound human desire and the consequences of turning the dream of immortality into a product.
Quote from Hans Block und Moritz Riesewieck, directors:
"People are turning away from religions and longing for new, secular narratives of salvation against the mercilessness of death. Tech companies are stepping into this gap and involving mourners in a real-time experiment. With our film, we want to open a debate about how far AI should penetrate all our lives – before and after death."
Quote from Christian Beetz, producer, author and CEO of gebrueder beetz filmproduktion
"I would like to thank the great, dedicated team behind our filmmakers Hans Block and Moritz Riesewieck. After our first great success with THE CLEANERS (Sundance 2018) we are delighted to be back in competition at the Sundance Film Festival and look forward to continuing to compete in the international market."
Quote from Georg Tschurtschenthaler, Producer:
"When Hans Block and Moritz Riesewieck introduced the topic to us years ago, AI was still a dream of the future. The film comes at exactly the right time and raises important questions. ETERNAL YOU brings to life the role AI can play – and will probably soon play – in our most private and intimate moments."
ETERNAL YOU was produced by gebrueder beetz filmproduktion in co-production with WDR (editor Christiane Hinz), NDR, BR, SWR, rbb, SRF | SRG SSR, VPRO and Docmine, in collaboration with ARTE, ORF, NRK, Impact Partners (USA) and Motto Pictures (USA) with the support of Die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (BKM), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and Creative Europe.
