BBC Worldwide and ProSieben reveal The Truth About Food
München (ots)
BBC Worldwide, the BBC's commercial consumer arm, has teamed up with German broadcaster ProSieben for The Truth About Food, a major new science series which will answer the questions and bust the myths about the food we eat every day.
The series - which in Germany will be called Food Check - uses original experiments on volunteers and state of the art medical imaging to show the real science behind the food we eat. Each episode will be thematic, employing cutting edge new research to probe such questions as how to keep slim, how to stay young and beautiful, and how to feed your children.
The BBC and BBC Worldwide have worked with ProSieben to push the co-production boundaries further, taking the episodic format of The Truth About Food, staging customized versions of the experiments with local volunteers and scientists in both Germany and Britain, allowing the series to be adapted to each broadcaster. ProSieben will also devote a substantial part of its weekly schedule to additional locally-produced programming, all of which will accompany the six episodes in the series and explore in greater depth the questions it raises.
Isabelle Helle, BBC Worldwide's Head of German Speaking Territories, said: "ProSieben understood from the start the two reasons which make The Truth About Food such an important series for BBC Worldwide. First, the depth and quality of its research make it the biggest ever undertaking of its kind on television. Secondly, it allows us to work with international partners to package a fantastic format in to genuinely bespoke event television across the schedule."
ProSieben's Editor in Chief, Thomas Zwiessler, added: "The close collaboration with the BBC, BBC Worldwide and the Discovery Health Channel US has enabled us to realise this ground-breaking series. Some of the accomplished experiments are complex and spectacular, others seem fairly simple. But all the experiments provide in-depth information and an understanding that will change our eating habits - forever!"
The Truth About Food is produced by Alice Harper. The executive producer is Jill Fullerton Smith. It is a BBC/ProSieben/Discovery Health Channel co-production.
