Deutsches Bundesland beauftragt Deutsche Post DHL Group erstmalig mit COVID-19-Impfstofflogistik.

• Niedersachsens Landesregierung vertraut bei Lagerung und Transport der neuen COVID-19-Impfstoffe auf Kapazitäten von DHL Supply Chain.
• DHL Supply Chain stellt hochmoderne Warenlager und Infrastruktur zur Kühlung und zum Transport der ersten 2,2 Millionen Impfdosen bei bis zu -70 Grad Celsius bereit.
• Verhandlungen mit weiteren Bundesländern stehen kurz vor dem Abschluss.

Bonn, 8. Dezember 2020: Als eines der ersten Bundesländer hat Niedersachsen DHL Supply Chain, Marktführer in der Kontraktlogistik und Teil der Deutsche Post DHL Group, mit der Lagerung und dem Transport der neuen COVID-19-Impfstoffe beauftragt. DHL wird an zwei seiner mehr als 140 zertifizierten Life Sciences & Health Care-Standorten rund 2,2 Millionen Impfdosen und ca. 350 Palletten Impfzubehör für das Land Niedersachsen lagern und von dort zu den Impfstellen und Krankenhäusern transportieren.

"Das Besondere an diesem Auftrag ist, dass der neue mRNA Impfstoff von Biontech / Pfizer bei extrem niedrigen Temperaturen gelagert werden muss. Die Aufbewahrung und der Transport bei -70 Grad Celsius stellt eine Herausforderung dar, die bislang nur Logistikunternehmen mit ausreichenden Kühlkapazitäten in diesem niedrigen Temperaturbereich bewältigen können. Wir haben aber bereits früh in den Ausbau unserer Deep Freezer Farms und Kühllager investiert. Diesen ersten Vertrag mit einer deutschen Landesregierung, dem Land Niedersachsen, zur Lagerung und zum Transport von COVID-19-Impfstoffen bekanntgeben zu können, zeigt, dass die Deutsche Post DHL Group eine entscheidende Rolle in der Bekämpfung der Corona-Pandemie spielen wird", sagt Oscar de Bok, CEO DHL Supply Chain und Vorstandsmitglied der Deutsche Post DHL Group.

An zwei getrennten Standorten wird DHL Supply Chain die Impfstoffe und das Impfzubehör für das Land Niedersachsen lagern. Hier werden die Impfdosen dann kommissioniert und für den Transport vorbereitet. Geplant ist zudem die Lagerung von Impfdosen in unterschiedlichen Temperaturbereichen. Neben Kapazitäten für die Aufbewahrung der mRNA Impfstoffe, die bei -70 Grad gelagert werden, werden auch Kühlkapazitäten für Impfdosen vorgehalten, die bei -20 Grad, beziehungsweise bei 2 bis 8 Grad gelagert werden.

"Die Vorbereitungen auf die anstehenden COVID-19-Impfungen stellen eine gewaltige organisatorische Herausforderung auf vielen verschiedenen Ebenen dar. Und deshalb freue ich mich, dass die Landesregierung Niedersachsen mit DHL Supply Chain einen Vertrag unterzeichnet hat, um die gesamte Impfstoff-Logistik auf ein verlässliches und professionelles Fundament zu stellen. Die Logistik ist damit vorbereitet. DHL wird für uns sowohl das Impfzubehör als auch die Impfstoffe einlagern und dafür Sorge tragen, dass die Impfzentren und Krankenhäuser mit den Impfstoffen beliefert werden", so Dr. Carola Reimann (SPD), Gesundheitsministerin des Landes Niedersachsen.

Aufgrund seiner föderalen Struktur liegt die Zuständigkeit für das Impfmanagement in Deutschland bei den 16 Bundesländern. Das Land Niedersachsen ist nun eines der ersten Bundesländer, das bei der Impfstofflogistik mit einem privaten Logistikdienstleister kooperiert. Dr. Karsten Schwarz, CEO DHL Supply Chain für die Region Deutschland & Alpen, ist zuversichtlich: "DHL Supply Chain bereitet sich auch auf die Belieferung anderer Bundesländer vor. Die Verhandlungen über den Transport und die Lagerung von COVID-Impfstoffen für andere Bundesländer stehen kurz vor dem Abschluss".

German federal state commissions Deutsche Post DHL Group for the first time to manage COVID-19 vaccine logistics.

• The State Government of Lower Saxony relies on DHL Supply Chain's capacity to store and transport the new COVID-19 vaccines.
• DHL Supply Chain uses state of the art warehouses and infrastructure to handle the first 2.2 million vaccine doses at temperatures of down to -70 degrees Celsius.
• Negotiations with further German federal states are nearing completion.

Bonn, December 8, 2020: The state of Lower Saxony is one of the first German federal states to commission DHL Supply Chain, market leader in contract logistics and part of the Deutsche Post DHL Group, to store and transport the new COVID-19 vaccines. DHL will store around 2.2 million vaccine doses and about 350 pallets of vaccination equipment for the federal state of Lower Saxony at two of its more than 140 certified Life Science Health Care locations. From there DHL will transport the vaccine to the vaccination centers and hospitals across the state.

"A specialty of this contract is that the new mRNA vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer has to be stored at extremely low temperatures. Storage and distribution at -70 degrees Celsius present a challenge. Only a handful of logistics companies possess the cooling and transport capacity to accommodate such low temperature range. But in anticipation, we have invested early on to expand our deep freezer farms and cold storage facilities. This first contract with a German state government, to manage COVID-19 vaccines logistics in the State of Lower Saxony, highlights the decisive role that Deutsche Post DHL Group will play in fighting the Corona pandemic," says Oscar de Bok, CEO DHL Supply Chain and Member of the Board of Management at Deutsche Post DHL Group.

DHL Supply Chain will store the vaccines and vaccination equipment for the state of Lower Saxony at two separate locations. Here, the vaccine doses will be picked and prepared for transport. It is also planned to store vaccine doses in different temperature ranges. In addition to capacities for the storage of mRNA vaccines, which need to be stored at -70 degrees Celsius, cooling capacities are also provided for vaccine doses, which are stored at -20 degrees or at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius.

"The preparations for the upcoming COVID-19 vaccinations represent a huge organizational challenge on many different levels. Therefore I'm delighted that the state government of Lower Saxony has signed a contract with DHL Supply Chain to put the entire vaccine logistics on a reliable and professional base. The logistics are thus prepared. DHL will store both the vaccine supplies and the vaccines on our behalf and ensure that vaccination centers and hospitals across the state are supplied with the vaccines," said Dr. Carola Reimann (SPD), Minister of Health of the State of Lower Saxony.

Based on its federal structure, responsibility for vaccination management in Germany sits with the 16 individual states. The State of Lower Saxony is one of the first German states to cooperate with a private logistics provider to manage the COVID-19 vaccine logistics.
