German Asphalt Days 2014: Economic energy supply thanks to Lignite Energy

Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH to present industry concept - flowable coal convinces asphalt-mixing plants throughout Europe
At the XVII German Asphalt Days, due to take place in Berchtesgarden from 10 to 12 February 2014, Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH (RBB) will introduce an energy concept based on Lignite Energy and developed specifically for the industry. With good reason: at the biennial asphalt industry convention a sustainable and economic energy supply will again figure high on the agenda.
In light of the high costs of oil and gas, pulverized and flowable lignite - marketed by RBB as "Lignite Energy Pulverized" or LEP in short - is meanwhile gaining in significance as affordable process energy Europe-wide. The advantages for the customer are obvious: sustainably low-cost energy and much-improved bases for costing and planning. To this must be added guaranteed long-term security of supply.
At present, more than four out of five asphalt-mixing plants in Germany - and a total of 600 works all over Europe - already opt for LEP. The growing demand for this high-quality energy source has meant that, with more than three million tons, we were able to post another new output record in 2013. Following the first bowl-mill crusher, which was commissioned only recently in 2008, another advanced crusher with an annual grinding capacity of 500,000 tons was inaugurated in the summer of 2012.
High-energy operations benefit from strong price stability
Pulverized lignite is delivered directly from the Rhenish mining area by road or rail - either by railway tank waggon or in special silo trucks; in both cases in a closed system - all the way to the customer's production site. Thanks to favourable conditions, deliveries across longer transport routes, too, are a worthwhile proposition. In this way it has been possible for RBB to extend its customer circle well beyond Germany's borders.
A customer's investment in silo, dosing station and burner - some E300,000 per plant - pays off for an annual asphalt-mixing output of 100,000 tons in less than two years. This makes a switch to the low- cost energy carrier interesting for smaller and medium-sized companies as well. RBB concludes long-term contracts with customers and delivers the fuel at a fixed price. Energy-price fluctuations are thus a thing of the past. The plant operator gains a dependable costing basis, giving him the planning certainty he needs.
At the accompanying trade exhibition, attendees of the German Asphalt Days have the opportunity to obtain detailed information from RBB (stand V11) about the individual benefits and options offered by Lignite Energy Pulverized on all three days of the convention.
