intec GmbH expands its range of xDSL and ISDN measurement technology

CeBIT 2003 12 - 19 March 2003 Hall 27, Stand B28
At CeBIT 2003, intec GmbH presents a number of new products to answer the challenges posed by the still uninterrupted trend to xDSL technologies. A study made in 2002 by the market researchers at Frost & Sullivan predicted that the number of broadband Internet accesses in Europe would grow from 3.8 million to 28.1 million by 2008 and that there would be a particularly noticeable jump in 2003. After presenting two versatile testers for ADSL accesses, the ARGUS 43 and 44, at last year's CeBIT, intec has extended its program with a handheld tester for SHDSL interfaces. Furthermore, the attractiveness of the ARGUS 43 and 44 testers, which are already quite successful in both the national and international markets, has been increased yet again by the addition of new, optional functions. In addition, at CeBIT 2003, intec presents not only the ARGUS 26 - a professional all-round tester with support for 2Mbit lines and all ISDN interfaces - but also the ARGUS 30 basic - an ISDN tester in the form of a PCMCIA card with software which can be conveniently operated in a PC or notebook computer.
ARGUS 28: Comprehensive SHDSL Test Functions With the ARGUS 28 handheld tester, intec presents its first SHDSL (Symmetric High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line) tester to the market. It supports network operators in particular in the installation and setup of the new 2 or 4-wire SHDSL systems. In this case, the tester simulates both the network and the customer side of the SHDSL connection. The ARGUS 28 is available in various versions - ranging from a pure SHDSL tester all the way to a universal tester, which supports every measurement routine needed for SHDSL, E1, X.21, PRI, BRI and POTS interfaces. Even the customer's terminal equipment can be included in the measurement process by simply connecting it to the output on the tester, which then serves as a SHDSL modem.
ARGUS 43 / 44: Now with an IP PING Function The ARGUS 43 and 44 mentioned above can be expanded with the optional IP ping function and an Ethernet interface to enable them to test Internet connections and to support an Ethernet through- mode. With these options, network operators can use these testers to exchange data packets with the Internet provider to determine the transmission quality of Internet connections. Additionally, the ARGUS 43 and 44 support the measurement of the up and downstream line parameters with a graphic display. Depending on the version, they can be used for both ADSL-over-POTS and ADSL-over- ISDN. While the ARGUS 43 is strictly an ADSL tester with an optional POTS test telephone function, the ARGUS 44 combi-tester can also be used as a complete ISDN tester, which includes a D-channel monitor. As a consequence, with the optional U-interface test function, the ARGUS 44 supports every currently available customer interface in a single tester. Like all of intec's handheld testers, the ARGUS 43 and 44 are intuitive to operate and therefore require no extensive knowledge of ADSL. The ARGUS WINplus software, which enables a clear presentation of the test results and extensive analysis of the data on a PC, has been extended to support ADSL with the appropriate measurements and graphics. With this program, it is easy to provide detailed documentation of any malfunctions.
ARGUS 26: The Professional for all 2Mbit and ISDN Connections The ARGUS 26 handheld tester, which intec presents for the first time at CeBIT 2003, has every feature you could wish for to support the installation and maintenance von BRI, E1/2Mbit, X.21, PRI, U- interface and POTS accesses. It features support for TE/NT simulation on BRI and PRI accesses, TE simulation on POTS and U- interfaces as well as convenient monitoring of the D-channel on BRI and PRI accesses. Using the ARGUS 26, it is possible to run bit error rate tests in any 64-kbit time slice (n x 64kBit, n=1-32) on an E1/2Mbit access. Additionally, the ARGUS 26 package has now been extended with an optional MegaBERT, which permits running a BERT (bit error rate test) at the full bandwidth of 2 Mbit/s - on all 32 time slices (2Mbit unframed) or at 1984 kbit/s on the time slices 1-31 (2Mbit framed) - for use in acceptance tests or to measure permanent circuits with graphic analysis on a PC. On PRI accesses, the bit error rate test can be performed with a remote loopbox or as an end- to-end measurement with another ARGUS tester at the remote end. Rounding out the package is an optional V5.x-Monitor, which can record the V5.1 or V5.2 protocol that can then be decoded and interpreted to create an easily understandable text with WINanalyse.
ARGUS 30 basic: Convenient ISDN Measurement Using a PC or Notebook CeBIT will also see the launching of the ARGUS 30 basic which provides the installer or service technician everything necessary to transform a PC or notebook computer into a complete ISDN tester for BRI accesses, which can optionally even handle U-interface accesses. ARGUS 30 basic is comprised of a Plug-and-Play PCMCIA card together with the WINtest test program, which provides TE-Simulation with numerous automatic test routines. With the ARGUS 30 basic, intec presents an exceptionally economical, convenient and mobile measurement device, which is particularly well suited for use onsite.
