init innovation in traffic systems AG has won a major contract from
Münchner Stadtwerke, the second-largest local public transport
company in Germany for its subsidiary Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft
(MVG). Accordingly, the specialist in telematics and electronic fare
collection systems will fit the operating center of MVG with a new
computer-aided dispatch and automatic vehicle location system,
MOBILE-CAD/-AVL. In addition, all new MVG buses will gradually be
provided with the on-board computer COPILOTpc from init. The scope of
supply will be completed by other software components such as the
dynamic passenger information system MOBILE-STOPinfo.
The CAD/AVL is scheduled for operation before the start of the
Football World Cup in April 2006. The order volume in this phase
amounts to around 4 million Euro. The gradual renewal of the current
MVG fleet totaling around 600 buses and trams will add further
equipment. The contract now concluded also includes maintenance of
the system over several years. 
The decision of Münchener Stadtwerke is the first in a number of
tenders for the modernization of the local public transport. init is
hopeful that it will be able to generate further contracts.
