„Monitoring matters – transparency makes land sector climate action effective“ - Oeko-Institut's blogpost

Dear Sir or Madam,

On the occasion of this week’s Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) Forests 2025, we would like to draw your attention to the following blog post.

„Monitoring matters – transparency makes land sector climate action effective“

Land management has important implications for climate change, making it essential to monitor it transparently. Increased transparency helps to improve decision-making, accountability, and responsibility of all actors. The Transparent Monitoring project identified a set of nine criteria designed to overcome challenges and strengthen the effectiveness of land sector GHG monitoring. These expand on the well-established monitoring principles under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to ensure that monitoring systems are not only technically rigorous but also equitable, scalable, and able to foster collaboration across diverse stakeholders.

Dr Hannes Boettcher from the Energy & Climate Protection Division at Oeko-Institut is available to answer any questions you may have on this topic. His contact details are email h.boettcher@oeko.de, phone +49 30 405085-389.

We have published this text as a blog post. You are welcome to quote it as you would a press release.
