The Audi plant in Ingolstadt has once again received environmental certification in accordance with the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme of the European Union. The plant first participated in certification in 1997.
"By participating in the European Eco-Management and Audit System, we have voluntarily committed ourselves to continuously improving environmental protection at our Ingolstadt plant," explained Jürgen Gebhardt, Member of the Board of AUDI AG for Production. "We have put numerous measures into practice in the last few years. For example, we have managed to reduce emissions of organic solvents per car built by 75% since 1991. This renewed certification comes as further confirmation of our commitment to the environment."
The examination was carried out last month by the independent environmental audit organisation DEKRA Umwelt GmbH of Stuttgart. The revalidation process takes place every three years and verifies the functioning of the "implemented management system", the full execution of the company's environmental policy and the continuous improvement of environmental protection at the company location.
Audi's environmental principles include the economical use of natural resources, the minimisation of environmental pollution in the course of a car's life, the qualification and motivation of employees and open communication within the company and to the outside world.
AUDI AG insists on the same high standard of environmental protection at all plants. For this reason, the Audi plant in Neckarsulm and the Audi plant in Györ, Hungary have already been certified according to the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme of the European Union.
Audi is an international developer and manufacturer of high-quality cars. The company maintains production sites in Germany, Hungary, Brazil, China and South Africa. In 1999 Audi supplied around 635,000 cars and produced more than 1.2 million engines, bringing in sales revenues in excess of DM 29.6 billion. The Audi Group has around 48,000 employees.
