Sustainability in Leipzig’s Conference Hotels

Sustainability in Leipzig’s Conference Hotels
When choosing a conference hotel, organisers are increasingly focusing on sustainability. They prefer hotels that already integrate environmental awareness and social responsibility into their day-to-day operations. But in such a resource-intensive business, how can sustainability succeed? After all, conference participants and hotel guests should want for nothing. Several conference hotels in Leipzig are leading the way with good ideas – and it’s about far more than just reusing towels.
No compromise on quality
Energy efficiency, waste minimisation, resource conservation and the associated cost savings: there are many ideas for incorporating sustainability into a hotel’s day-to-day operations. And awareness of climate and environmental protection, and a future worth living in, has long since arrived in the hospitality industry. What’s more, organisers who value sustainability do not have to compromise. Leipzig is home to hotels of all shapes and sizes that are committed to sustainability and at the same time deliver on quality.
The Westin Leipzig: Award-winning commitment
The Westin Leipzig promises more than just stunning views and the best conditions for meetings and conferences. In 2020/21, The Westin Hotel Leipzig was named Saxony’s best and most sustainable meeting and conference hotel by the CERTIFIED testing institute. The Westin is also a Certified Green Hotel. The hotel has worked hard to earn these titles through a series of steps. It converted its lighting to LED. Timers ensure efficient use of energy for air conditioning and lighting. Guests are provided with recyclable room cards. Electric charging points are available for all types of vehicles. The kitchen uses regional and seasonal produce. The principle is always the same – conserving resources without compromising on comfort. The hotel also has a strong focus on young talent: its commitment to vocational orientation as well as training and continuing professional development was recognised with the “edward 2023” from the Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Besides the 4,000 square metres of event space with 51 conference and banqueting rooms, there are many reasons to invite guests to The Westin Leipzig.
Leipzig Marriott Hotel: Green Key and PlanT explained
The Leipzig Marriott Hotel acquired Green Key certification in 2023. This certification recognises how sustainable hotels have become in terms of environmental, social and economic aspects. The certification also focuses on raising awareness of sustainability issues among guests. So it’s even better that Marriott guests can experience sustainability in a very tangible way. With the introduction of the new PlanT room category, an entire floor has been dedicated to this subject. The rooms have a more sustainable feel, with the addition of plants and ecological alternatives to the previous standard. These include organic tea and coffee, sustainable pens, and water-saving shower heads and taps. Guests are provided with a complimentary bicycle for the duration of their stay. What’s more, for every overnight stay, a tree is planted locally by the Forest for Saxony foundation. The hotel also aims to reduce its environmental footprint by reducing waste and saving energy. In the pipeline: a recycling initiative for all paper towels in the hotel. After use, they will be collected, recycled by the manufacturer and reused.
Victor’s Residenz-Hotel Leipzig and Dorint Hotel Leipzig: A variety of green ideas
“Give back more“ is the motto at Victor’s Residenz-Hotel Leipzig. The main focus is on energy management, the conservation of resources and a commitment to social responsibility. Not forgetting sustainable management through the conscious selection of products and suppliers. The GreenSign sustainability seal proves that this is working well. It is Germany’s leading hotel sustainability certification. The Dorint Hotel Leipzig also has a passion for green ideas. GreenSquareConcept is the name of the hotel group’s sustainability programme. And it encompasses a wide range of measures. Reducing carbon emissions, strengthening social justice, and sustainable building and quality standards are just three of many examples.
Radisson Blu Hotel Leipzig: Green conferences
The Radisson Blu is another Certified Business, Conference and Green Hotel in a prime location in Leipzig. Sustainable business processes in all areas are the basis for the certifications. The general motto of the hotel group is Think People, Think Community and Think Planet. One of the pillars is the ambitious plan for a carbon-free future by 2050. With its Experience Meetings concept, the Radisson Blu promises to rethink business meetings. In addition to good food and top facilities, the principles also include environmental awareness. For example, the hotel uses 100 per cent renewable electricity. The Radisson Blu Hotel Leipzig also promotes its sophisticated training programme for hotel, restaurant and kitchen professionals. Forbes named the hotel group the fourth best employer in the travel and leisure industry. It’s worth taking a look at the breakfast buffet, for example. This is characterised by a regional touch and the absence of single-serve packaging.
Many facets of sustainability: A prime location for forward-thinking ideas
All of these hotels are prestigious conference hotels, centrally located and easily accessible. Moreover, the commitment to sustainability does not end at the hotel doors. Leipzig is bursting with exciting approaches to practising sustainability. From sustainable mobility and tips for sustainability at events to urban green spaces – in Leipzig, conference organisers and delegates can come into direct contact with forward-looking ideas.
