Topic of the Month: July 4 is Independence Day, when Americans fly their Stars and Stripes. Later in the month, on July 14th, France will wave the tricolors on their national holiday. The United Kingdom has the same colors on the proud Union Jack. The Czech Republic also have a national emblem in these colors, as does Slovenia, Slovakia and the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. Common amongst them: A symbol, a mark of community—the flag in red-white-blue color scheme which is particularly popular and aesthetically appealing. The colors form an almost sacred union, and for many they are a combination par excellence.
