Today at CeBIT 2002, the Siemens Information and
Communication Mobile Group (IC Mobile) announced a free upgrade for
existing S45 and ME45 software. Through a simple download procedure
that can be completed at home, the free upgrade incorporates GPRS
Class 8 to bring an estimated 33 percent increase in data
transmission speeds and a range of additional features, including EMS
capability and the interactive game Kung-Fu(tm). Siemens also
announced the S45i, developed from the S45 with new features such as
e-mail client, which will be available from May 2002 in two stunning
colors.
Downloaded via the Internet, using a data cable, the upgrade can
be quickly and easily completed at home which enables consumers to
benefit from the additional features instantly. Transmission and
transfer of information and access to the internet is made
significantly quicker through the incorporation of GPRS Class 8 and
the update allows the office features of the S45 and ME45 to be
synchronized with Microsoft OutlookTM via the infrared interface
(IrDA).
Communicating with friends and colleagues becomes more expressive
and inventive with the addition of EMS, enabling sounds and pictures
to be embedded into SMS messages and sent across networks to other
EMS compliant devices. Additionally the upgrade enables SMS messages
to be extended to 760 characters, offering users more freedom to
express themselves. Out of office hours are also made more fun with
the inclusion of the interactive, multi-player SMS game Kung-Fu from
BattleMailTM, that allows users to challenge friends and colleagues
around the world. Players can choose from a range of characters,
including Brad, an Australian watersports instructor, Kai, a Japanese
martial arts expert, and Holly, a 'wannabe' pop star from London,
then select moves, send an SMS challenge to a friend and then watch a
fully animated fight take place on-screen.
Additionally, from May 2002 fans of Siemens' S45 will be able to
combine extended business functionality with their favorite design,
as the S45i goes on sale across Europe and Asia. Incorporating all
the features of Siemens' S45, the S45i includes additional
applications such as e-mail client, faster synchronization and a new
exciting game RaceAce. The S45i will be the ideal companion for the
busy business traveler on the move. Available in two stunning
colors, Titan Silver and Royal Champagne, the refresh will also bring
a new level of style to an already elegant product.
Peter Zapf, President of Mobile Phones, within the Information and
Communication Mobile Group said: "The S45 and ME45 have been very
popular with consumers and we are delighted to offer this free
download to ensure users have the most up-to-date technology on their
favorite products. Additionally, by introducing the S45i to our
portfolio we are able to combine existing features with new
technologies to bring business users the perfect mobile companion."
The free software upgrade of the S45 and ME45 will be available to
consumers free of charge from March 2002. The upgrade can be
downloaded via the Internet at www.my-siemens.com.
The S45i will go on sale across Europe and Asia from May 2002 and
