Deutsche Entertainment AG (DEAG), Germanys leading listed live entertainment group has entered into a long-term co-operation agreement in the field of merchandising with Sunburst AG and granted in this connection an attractive licence package. The licence package contains extensive rights from the variety, venue and tour business segments of DEAG.
This includes trademark rights of the successful variety theatres Wintergarten Variete Berlin, Roncallis Apollo Variete Düsseldorf und Friedrichsbau Variety Stuttgart. Sunburst Merchandising AG will use and market the brand names of the variety theatres in attractive product lines.
Furthermore, the licence package also encompasses concessions for the DEAG venues Waldbühne Berlin, Waldbühne Schwarzenberg, Velodrom and Max- Schmeling-Halle Berlin as well as the Jahrhunderthalle Frankfurt. Sunburst Merchandising AG will offer professional on-site sales for the entire merchandising product range at all the events staged in these venues.
The long-term character of the co-operation is expressed particularly in the conclusion of an output deal which grants Sunburst a multi-annual right of first refusal for all new merchandising rights of DEAG. Given the strong growth, the issuing of further valuable licences is to be expected in future, particularly through the opening or acquisition of additional variety theatres, venues, festivals and tours. To this end, Sunburst has acquired 51% of the shares in the DEAG subsidiary Real Merchandising GmbH in which the licence rights of DEAG are pooled and will assume with its own merchandising know-how the entrepreneurial leadership. The partners have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
Peter Schwenkow, CEO of DEAG, commented as follows: This co-operation allows DEAG to concentrate fully on the attractive role of a licensor and to benefit from the profitable issuing of merchandising rights whereas Sunburst will input its core skills into product development and marketing.
Hero Alting, CEO of Sunburst AG, added: This co-operation with the market leader in live entertainment will enable us to expand our dominant position in merchandising. Sunburst is already the leading marketing company in the field of merchandising for entertainment and sport licences. Thanks to the output deal with DEAG we will be able to extend the music area and this also guarantees us the variety business segment.
