DEAG and MME (Me, Myself & Eye Film and TV-Productions GmbH) are launching ShowNet.de - the first German full-service live-music portal on the Internet. Content-basis of this joint-venture is formed by exclusive information (daily entertainment news, tour calendar, artists biographies), extensive e-Commerce opportunities (tickets, merchandising, CDs, downloads) and attractive community-elements (chat channels for events and artists, fan-forums, ticket exchanges, voting). Both DEAG and MME have close contacts with performing artists and bands, so that ShowNet.de will be able to provide live-streams from concerts, and other exclusive contents relating to live events (special advanced sales only via Internet, interviews, artist chats, auctions of memorabilia), giving it a clear edge over existing providers of similar services.
In addition to establishing ShowNet.de as the premium brand under the B- to-C music-portals, a key source of revenue for ShowNet.de will be as B-to- B provider of attractive live-entertainment contents in cooperation with general-interest portals. Such co-branding partnerships will at the same time open up interesting opportunities for the promotion of own-brand traffic. A further attractive field of operations for ShowNet.de will be the secondary marketing of recorded live-material on TV, video or DVD. The aim will be to establish ShowNet.de as "First Mover" on the emerging Internet and broad-band market, utilising the entire convergence potential from the core activities of DEAG and MME - live-entertainment, TV-productions and online-distribution, and at the same time extending its value-creation chain by means of multimedia. While it is in the process of establishing its own brand-image, ShowNet.de will be able to take advantage of the range of the TV-formats of MME and the considerable event advertising budget of DEAG, so that it will not suffer from the widespread Internet syndrome of "cash burning".
MME, which is planning its own going public this year, is one of the leading German film and TV-production firms in the field of youth culture and music, and produces popular programmes in Germany such as Bravo TV, Top of the Pops, The Dome, and POP 2000. MME supplies the editorial content for ShowNet.de from its world-wide network of music journalists, and will be responsible for the technical implementation of the portal from the development through production to the hosting.
In the framework of the Internet strategy of DEAG, ShowNet.de represents the core product in the Media & Commerce Division, by means of which the value-creation chain will be extended into e-Commerce and at the same time important 1-to-1 marketing and promotion instruments will be made accessible for all member companies of the DEAG Group.
ShowNet.de will be officially launched on 19th August at a press conference at the PopKomm music trade fair in Cologne, in front of an audience of journalists and representatives of the music industry. For its on-line start-up, ShowNet.de will be presenting the MTV Hard Pop Days and a concert of the Bloodhound Gang - two absolute top-events as live webcasts.
