6-month report/Q2-report
29.08.2007
The sluggishness experienced by the aviation industry in the 2nd quarter of 2007 did not leave Air Berlin unscathed either. The downturn in demand, due to the weather and particularly noticeable in April, led to aggressive competition in the industry, and consequently to falling prices. In the 2nd quarter the turnover from fares increased by 4.8 per cent from EUR 487m to EUR 510.5m in comparison with the same period of the previous year. In a comparison of the figures for the half-year it increased by 8.7 per cent: from EUR 784.1m to EUR 852.7 m. The additional revenue per passenger increased from EUR 2.91 to EUR 3.54 in the first six months of 2007. Overall the turnover for the half-year has increased by 7.1 per cent from EUR 859.6m to EUR 920.5m. In Q2/2007 the EBITDAR (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortisation and rent) of EUR 104m reached almost the same level as in the previous year (EUR 104.3m). A comparison of the figures for the half-year shows an increase of 26.2 per cent from EUR 86.8m to EUR 109.5m. The earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) fell by 47.4 per cent from EUR 44.7m to EUR 23.5m in a comparison between the second quarters of 2006 and 2007. When the traditionally weak quarter for the aviation industry is included, the EBIT margin has remained almost the same (-3.8 % as opposed to -4 %) in comparison with the half-year 2006. The net profit in the 2nd quarter of 2007 amounted to EUR 12.1m. This corresponds to 2.2 per cent of turnover. A figure of EUR 30.1m was achieved in the same quarter of the previous year. The half-year comparison shows a net result of EUR -29.3m. For the full year of 2007 Air Berlin is aiming for an EBIT above the previous year´s level (EUR 64m).
