At the same time, capacity utilization of Germany's second-largest airline company decreased slightly to 79.03 percent (June 2011: 80.03 percent). The decline in the number of passengers can be attributed to the relocation of the Berlin air traffic from the future airport BER back to Berlin-Tegel, which was announced at very short notice, and to the flight schedule changes related thereto. In total, airberlin welcomed 3,297,750 passengers on board in June 2012, i.e. 5.0 percent less than in the corresponding month of the previous year (June 2011: 3,471,923 passengers). From January to June, capacity utilization increased by 1.9 percentage points, i.e. from 75.3 percent to 77.2 percent. For the first half-year of 2012, capacity was reduced by 7.6 percent to 20,151,186 seats. Over the same period, airberlin transported a total of 15,557,228 passengers, i.e. 5.3 percent less than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
