Sales to semiconductor industry increased by 44.4 per cent in first quarter.
In the first quarter 2000 the TePla AG increased sales in its business unit Semiconductor Technology due to the ongoing upswing in the semiconductor market by 44.4 percent to DM 3.6 million (previous year: DM 2.5 million), thus exceededing previous estimates by approximately 25 per cent. Driving force behind this development is especially the US market, in with TePla succeeded to generate revenues of DM 0.8 million (previous year: 0.0 million) equalling the record mark of 17.2 per cent of company turnover.
With DM 4.5 million, total group revenues thus exceeded planned figures in the traditionally weak first quarter by approximately 10 per cent. While having heavily intensified selling- and R&D-activities since last year, net income also turned out better than expected. With a strong dollar price and lower than expected bad debt losses, the anticipated burdon of DM -0.10 on first quarter earnings per share could be avoided, reaching a balanced result for the first three months instead.
Order intake in Semiconductor division more than doubled.
Even stronger effects of the current semiconductor boom are to be expected for the near future. In the first quarter, order intake in the Semiconductor Technology division increased by 116.7 per cent and thus more than doubled to DM 4.1 million (previous year: DM 1.9 million). The planned order intake in the first three months thus could be exceeded by over 35 per cent.
The complete numbers for the first quarter 2000 are to be published on 24 May 2000.
