2014 Architecture Biennale in Venice: Schüco supports Germany's contribution
Bielefeld (ots)
On 7 June 2014, the doors will open for the 14th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. As this year's curator, Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas has selected the key theme of "Absorbing Modernity: 1914 - 2014" for the national pavilions. Germany's contribution has been designed by Zürich-based architect duo Alex Lehnerer and Savvas Ciriacidis. Schüco is supporting the project on the request of these two architects.
Exactly how Lehnerer and Ciriacidis are implementing the broad topic specified by Koolhaas under their title of "Bungalow Germania" cannot be divulged at this point. All we can say is that their exhibition concept tackles architecture as a social undertaking; specifically, their contribution deals with the German pavilion itself and the Chancellor's Bungalow in Bonn built by Sep Ruf. Savvas Ciriacidis sums up succinctly why the two general commissioners, who run the CIRIACIDISLEHNERER architecture office together in Zürich, wanted Schüco as part of their team: "With its 60 years of experience, Schüco is the perfect partner for our concept."
For Andreas Engelhardt, Chairman of the Schüco Executive Management Board, being involved in this project goes without saying: "We agreed straight away and are delighted to support Germany's contribution. For us, architects are a fundamental dialogue group, and the Architecture Biennale has a long tradition of targeting internationally renowned architects."
The international architecture community must be excited to see how Lehnerer and Ciriacidis have approached the given topic and skilfully combined elements of German architectural history into their project.
