Logistik auf 4.000 Metern Höhe: DHL unterstützt Livent Corporation in Lateinamerika

Bonn, den 17. September 2020: DHL Industrial Projects, der auf komplexe Projektlogistik, Transportlösungen mittels Hochsee-Chartering und Schwerguttransporte spezialisierte Geschäftsbereich von DHL Global Forwarding, unterstützt das Lithium-Unternehmen Livent bei der Erweiterung seiner Produktionsanlage in El Salar del Hombre Muerto in der argentinischen Provinz Catamarca. Zum Leistungsumfang gehören internationale Transporte, Hochsee-Charter für vorgefertigte, modularisierte Fracht, Luftfrachtservices sowie die Lagerung und Inlandstransporte für eines der führenden Unternehmen in der Lithiumgewinnung und Herstellung von Lithiumverbindungen. Vorgefertigte Module und andere Materialien werden von Asien, Nordamerika und verschiedenen Standorten in Europa aus nach Südamerika transportiert. DHL wurde aufgrund seiner Erfahrung in bisherigen Projekten in Lateinamerika und des exzellenten Service als Partner für dieses Projekt ausgewählt.

"Für dieses Projekt war es besonders wichtig, spezielle Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsmaßnahmen für alle Beteiligten umzusetzen und auch eng mit der lokalen Bevölkerung zusammenzuarbeiten. Wir haben unsere Personalservices erweitert und beispielsweise Sauerstofftests für unsere Fahrer sowie Shuttle-Services für die Beschäftigten angeboten. DHL Industrial Projects hat einmal mehr bewiesen, dass wir der Anbieter erster Wahl sind - auch wenn die Luft dünn wird."
DHL wurde von Livent mit zahlreichen Dienstleistungen für ihre Produktionsstätte in über 4.000 Metern Höhe über dem Meeresspiegel beauftragt. Diese reichen von Chartering und dem Transport von sperriger Fracht bis hin zu einem Shuttle-Service zum Standort für das Personal. Faktoren wie extreme Wetterbedingungen, Sauerstoffmangel und begrenzter Telefonempfang, um nur einige zu nennen, erfordern höchste HSE-Standards (Health Safety Enivronment) und zusätzliche Sicherheitsvorkehrungen für die Beschäftigten. Das DHL-Team an den Livent-Standorten gewährleistete jederzeit einen exzellenten Service. Mit Satellitentelefonen wurde eine Vernetzung über die gesamte Transportkette sichergestellt. Zudem leistete DHL Unterstützung bei der Einhaltung der Sicherheitsstandards. So wurde bei den Fahrern regelmäßig die Sauerstoffsättigung im Blut gemessen. Die Beschäftigung der lokalen Bevölkerung und die Entwicklung lokaler Anbieter haben für Livent hohe Priorität. Gerne unterstützte DHL diese Initiative und organisierte für die Beschäftigten einen Shuttle-Service zu den jeweiligen Arbeitsstätten. Außerdem förderte DHL die Sichtbarkeit der an der Projektentwicklung beteiligten lokalen Anbieter. Überwacht wurden alle Maßnahmen von einem zentralen Control Tower in Buenos Aires, der die End-to-End-Prozesse damit verbesserte.
Livent ist einer der größten Hersteller von Lithiumverbindungen und führend in der Lithiumgewinnung und -reinigung. Der Rohstoff wird in verschiedenen Bereichen eingesetzt, vor allem aber in Akkus in der E-Mobilität, was ihn zu einem wichtigen Bestandteil bei der Weiterentwicklung von Mobilitätslösungen und dem Umstieg auf grüne Energie macht.

Power up logistics: DHL supporting Livent Corporation in Latin America

Bonn, September 17, 2020: DHL Industrial Projects, a unit of DHL Global Forwarding that manages complex project logistics, deep sea chartering activity and heavy-lift cargo, has been supporting Livent with the expansion of its production facility in El Salar del Hombre Muerto in the province of Catamarca, Argentina. This includes international shipments, ocean charters for prefabricated modularised cargo, airfreight, storage, and domestic inland transportation for one of the biggest providers of lithium compounds and leaders in lithium extraction. Prefabricated modules and other materials are transported from Asia, North America, and various locations in Europe. DHL was chosen as the partner of choice for this project, owing to its experience in previous projects in Latin America and excellent service level.
"Logistics, especially under challenging conditions, is all about expertise, flexibility and reliability. All this is part of our DNA," says Ryan Foley, CEO DHL Industrial Projects. "For this project, it was particularly important to implement special health and safety measures for all involved, and to work closely with local residents as well. We have expanded our personnel services, such as providing oxygen tests to our drivers and offering transfers. DHL Industrial Projects has once more proven to be the provider of choice, even when the air gets thin."
With the production site located at about 4,000 metres above sea level, DHL was contracted to provide numerous services for Livent, ranging from chartering and movement of over-sized cargo to personnel transfers to the site. Factors such as the extreme weather conditions, lack of oxygen and limited telephone signal, among others, required highest HSE standards and additional safety arrangements for the staff. DHL team members, based at the Livent facilities, ensured maintenance of excellent service. These team members provided satellite mobile phones to ensure connectivity through the entire transportation chain or support with the compliance of safety standards by providing regular check-ups on blood oxygen levels for drivers. As the employment of residents and the development of local vendors are of high priority for Livent, DHL supported this initiative by providing personnel transfer to the sites, as well as enhancing the visibility of the local vendors involved in the project development. Services were monitored from a central control tower based in Buenos Aires, enhancing end-to-end processes.
Livent is one of the biggest providers of lithium compounds and a leader in lithium extraction and purification technology. The raw material has a number of uses, notably being used in batteries for e-mobility - powering the next generation of mobility and the move to green energy.
