DHL Express baut neues Gateway in Helsinki
- Investitionsvolumen in Höhe von 100 Millionen Euro

Vantaa/Finnland, 16. Juni 2023: DHL Express Finnland wird am Flughafen Helsinki-Vantaa ein Logistikzentrum für den internationalen Luftexpressverkehr errichten. Die Gesamtinvestitionen in die neuen Räumlichkeiten sowie die Technologie auf dem Aviapolis-Gelände belaufen sich auf rund 100 Millionen Euro für die gesamte Mietdauer. Sobald der Airside-Zugang in Betrieb ist, können die auf dem Vorfeld geparkten DHL-Flugzeuge direkt vom neuen Gebäude aus erreicht werden. Alle ein- und ausgehenden Express-Sendungen in Finnland werden in dem Logistikzentrum abgewickelt, dessen Fertigstellung für die zweite Hälfte des Jahres 2025 geplant ist.
Die neue Anlage ist eine Reaktion auf das wachsende Sendungsvolumen von DHL Express in Finnland, das in den letzten Jahren durch den internationalen E-Commerce und eine bemerkenswerte Nachfragesteigerung in allen Kundensegmenten angetrieben wurde. „Die Flexibilität, Zuverlässigkeit, Schnelligkeit und globale Abdeckung unserer Dienstleistungen sind entscheidend für die Supply-Chain-Planung unserer Kunden. Im Laufe der Jahre haben wir systematisch in unsere Aktivitäten in Finnland investiert und diese ausgebaut. Mit diesem Projekt werden wir unsere Kapazitäten deutlich erhöhen und damit das Potenzial für künftiges Wachstum sicherstellen. Die neue, hochmoderne Gateway-Anlage wird uns in die Lage versetzen, weiterhin zuverlässige und schnelle Transportdienstleistungen zu erbringen, die die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit finnischer Export- und Importunternehmen unterstützen“, sagt Oktay Nuri, Managing Director DHL Express Finnland.
Am neuen Gateway werden rund 150 Mitarbeitende beschäftigt sein, und es wird erwartet, dass die Zahl noch um mehrere Dutzend wächst. Der Hauptsitz von DHL Express Finnland wird in separaten Büroräumen untergebracht sein.
„Der neue Standort wird rund 16.000 Bruttoquadratmeter groß sein und damit mehr als doppelt so groß wie unser derzeitiges Gateway in Vantaa. Das automatische Sortiersystem kann etwa 6.500 Sendungen pro Stunde verarbeiten. 90 direkte Ladebuchten ermöglichen eine effiziente Sortierung der Sendungen direkt vom Förderband zu den Lieferwagen. Alle Ladebuchten werden mit Ladestationen für E-Fahrzeuge ausgestattet sein, was unser Ziel unterstützt, unsere gesamte Abhol- und Zustellflotte innerhalb weniger Jahre zu elektrifizieren“, erklärt Janne Appel, Operations Director DHL Express Finnland.
Nachhaltige Netzwerkentwicklung
Deutsche Post DHL Group hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, bis zum Jahr 2050 Netto-Null-Emissionen zu erreichen. Die Verringerung des CO2-Fußabdrucks des Transports und die klimaneutrale Gestaltung aller neuen Gebäude sind wichtige Schritte auf diesem Weg. Dementsprechend wird auch das neue Helsinki-Gateway klimaneutral sein. Geothermische Wärme wird als Hauptwärmequelle genutzt, und Strom wird mit Photovoltaikanlagen erzeugt. Ein fortschrittliches Gebäudemanagementsystem, energieeffiziente Baumaterialien und Verarbeitungsgeräte sowie LED-Beleuchtung gehören zu den umweltfreundlichen Merkmalen. Die Mitarbeitenden erhalten ein geräumiges und funktionales Arbeitsumfeld, bei dem Sicherheits- und Umweltaspekte berücksichtigt wurden.
Das neue Gateway, das nach den weltweiten Standards von DHL Express entworfen wurde, wird von AVIA Real Estate Oy gebaut, mit Meijou Oy als Hauptauftragnehmer.
Das neue Gateway in Helsinki ist Teil eines umfangreichen Programms zur Verbesserung der Infrastruktur des DHL Express Netzwerks. Ein entsprechendes Gateway wird derzeit in München gebaut, und vor einigen Monaten wurde in Kopenhagen ein neues Nordic Express Hub eröffnet. In Finnland wurde 2019 ein neues hochmodernes 5.000 Quadratmeter großes Express-Terminal in Pirkkala fertiggestellt.

DHL Express transportiert eilige Dokumente und Waren bis zu 3.000 kg zuverlässig und pünktlich von Tür zu Tür in mehr als 220 Länder und Territorien. DHL Express to build new gateway facility in Helsinki

Vantaa/Finland, June 16, 2023: DHL Express Finland will build a logistics center serving international air express transportation at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. DHL Express’ total investment in new premises and technology in the Aviapolis area is around €100 million for the entire lease period. Once operational, the airside access allows DHL aircraft parked on the apron to be reached directly from the new building. All incoming and outgoing Express shipments in Finland will be handled in the logistics center, which is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2025.
The new facility comes in response to growing DHL Express shipment volumes in Finland, powered in the past few years by international e-commerce and remarkable growth in demand in all customer segments. “The flexibility, reliability, speed and global coverage of our services are critical to our customers’ supply chain planning. Over the years, we have systematically invested in and strengthened our operations in Finland. With this project, we will significantly increase our processing capacity, ensuring potential for future growth. The new state-of-the-art gateway facility will enhance our ability to continue to create reliable and fast transport services that support the competitiveness of Finnish export and import companies,” says Oktay Nuri, Managing Director DHL Express Finland.
Some 150 employees will be employed at the new gateway and the number is expected to grow by several dozens. The head office of DHL Express Finland will be located in separate office premises.
"The new facility will be about 16,000 gross square meters in size, more than double the size of our current gateway in Vantaa. The automated sorting system can handle approximately 6,500 items per hour. 90 direct loading bays enable efficient sorting of shipments directly from the conveyor to the delivery vans. All bays will be equipped with charging stations for e-vehicles, supporting our goal to electrify our entire pick-up and delivery fleet within a few years", explains Janne Appel, Operations Director DHL Express Finland.
Sustainable network development
It is Deutsche Post DHL Group’s mission to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Reducing the carbon footprint of transportation and designing all new buildings carbon neutral are important steps in the sustainability roadmap. Accordingly, the new Helsinki Express gateway will be carbon neutral. Geothermal heat is used as the main heating solution and electricity is produced with photovoltaic systems. An advanced building management system, energy-efficient building materials and processing equipment, and LED lighting are among the environmentally friendly features. The employees will get a spacious and functional working environment, in which safety and environmental aspects have been taken into account.
The new gateway, designed according to global DHL Express standards, will be built by AVIA Real Estate Oy, with Meijou Oy as the main contractor.
The new Helsinki gateway is part of an extensive DHL Express network infrastructure improvement program. A corresponding gateway facility is currently being built in Munich, and a new Nordic Express hub was opened in Copenhagen a couple of months ago. In Finland, a new state-of-the-art 5,000 square meter Express terminal was completed in Pirkkala in 2019.

DHL Express transports urgent documents and goods up to 3,000 kg reliably and on time from door to door in more than 220 countries and territories. Daily flights from Leipzig and Copenhagen hubs to Helsinki, and vice versa, connect Finland to the global DHL Express network.
