major contract for exhaust abatement systems used in off-road applications

ElringKlinger's Swiss subsidiary, Hug Engineering AG, is to develop and
produce the complete exhaust abatement technology for a series of
construction vehicles of an international manufacturer specializing in
engines and vehicles for off-road applications.
Hug will supply systems for exhaust after-treatment, which comprise
both a catalytic diesel particulate trap filter and a selective
catalytic NOx reduction (SCR) unit. In addition to meeting the Euro 3B
emission standard, the system also complies with exhaust noise
regulations.
Hug is to develop exhaust abatement systems for a series of
construction machines driven by diesel engines. The systems are to be
supplied as from 2012. Spanning a period of three years, the contract
is worth several million euros towards the lower end of the double-
digit range.
In response to more stringent emission standards worldwide, engines
used in commercial vehicles as well as in the off-road segment are
being equipped to an increasing extent with comprehensive exhaust after-
treatment systems.
In cooperation with ElringKlinger AG, Hug Engineering AG is also
looking to supply original-equipment customers in the commercial
vehicle sector with exhaust abatement systems, particularly in the area
of heavy-duty applications. Combined with ElringKlinger CleanCoat
coating material for soot reduction, Hug diesel particulate filters are
to be used in the commercial vehicle sector as well as in off-road
vehicles and in stationary applications.
ElringKlinger AG acquired a majority interest in Swiss-based exhaust
treatment specialist Hug Engineering AG effective from May 1, 2011.
