A total of 631 programmes have been submitted as entries in the European CIVIS Media Prize 2013 for Integration and Cultural Diversity. Programme makers and broadcasting companies from all over Europe will be competing for Europe's most important media prize for integration and cultural diversity. Once again programmes from 22 EU countries plus Switzerland are participating in the European CIVIS competition.
For two decades now, CIVIS has been honouring programmes on radio and TV and since 2010, also on the Internet, which promote the peaceful coexistence of people of the most varied national, ethnic, religious or cultural origins. A jury made up of international, independent media experts will decide in February at SRG SSR in Bern on the programmes to be nominated for the final selection. Jury chairpersons are television presenter Frank Elstner, ARD Tatort police inspector Miroslav Nemec, WDR television journalist Sonia Seymour Mikich, BR radio director Dr. Johannes Grotzky and film director Buket Alakus. The closing date for nominations was January 22, 2013.
The CIVIS Media Prize 2013 will be awarded on May 16, in the presence of a large number of guests from politics and media at an official ceremony and TV-Gala at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. The ceremony will be presented by Sandra Maischberger. The ARD/Das Erste German television programme will broadcast the event live in its evening programme. Federal President, Joachim Gauck, the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, and the Federal Foreign Minister, Dr. Guido Westerwelle, are the patrons of the CIVIS Media Prize 2013.
