Tomorrow's Transmissions 13th International CTI Symposium, Berlin, Germany, 8-11 December 2014 Plus Transmission Expo - http://www.transmission-symposium.com/en/transmission-expo/

Düsseldorf/Berlin (ots)

The diversity of transmission and drive concepts is booming, with no sign of consolidation in sight. "Due to electrification and the growing complexity of drives, competition for the best transmission and drive concept has entered a whole new dimension", explains Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ferit Küçükay (Director Institute of Automotive Engineering, Technical University of Braunschweig). "Drives and transmissions need to be so well integrated into the overall vehicle, and network so well with vehicles, driving environments and drivers, that they work with optimal efficiency, and safely. Transmissions also need to be affordable, light and compact, offer segment and market-specific advantages, and meet legal requirements for energy consumption and CO2 emissions".

All the more reason to look forward to the 13th International CTI Symposium "Automotive Transmissions, HEV and EV Drives" in Berlin (December 8-11 2014). Under Küçükay's chairmanship, over 100 experts for drives, transmissions and components from around the world will meet up to discuss new developments in the transmission world with around 1,100 participants from 20 nations. This year's focus rests on current transmission concepts and new developments in alternative drives such as Full Hybrid, Plug-in or EV with and without Range Extenders, and also Mild Hybrids and 48 volt technology as the most affordable form of electrification. According to estimates, this Mild Hybrid variant will be on board at least one in ten of the 112.5 million cars sold in ten years' time. Many auto suppliers are already working with this technology, which is said to help save fuel, reduce emissions and improve comfort.

Other themes at Germany's transmissions event with the highest number of international experts are start and shift elements, new transmission and alternative drive concepts for trucks, batteries and infrastructure, E motors, NVH, lubrication systems and oiling inspections, the impact of driving cycles on the design of transmissions and alternative drives, simulation and diagnosis, and sensor technology. Among the experts expected to attend are Prof. Dr.-Ing. Herbert Kohler (Daimler), Prof. Helmut List (AVL List), Bernhard Mattes (Ford), Dr. Klaus Badenhausen (Chery Automobile Co.), Terry Nakatsuka (Jatco), Uwe Wagner (Schaeffler), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Hadler (Automobile Inspection Technology Landau), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Pischinger (FEV) and Enrico Sedoni (CNH Industrial). For details, please visit http://www.transmission-symposium.com/en/

CTI Award

Once again, highlights will include the award ceremony for the CTI Young Drive Expert Award, which honours outstanding student papers and dissertations on transmissions and drive developments. This year's motto is "The Future Needs Young Developers". The submission deadline for entries is 20 October 2014. For more about the CTI Award, please visit http://www.transmission-symposium.com/en/award

CTI Test Drive

The CTI Test Drive is a regular feature at the transmission event. It offers participants a hands-on experience of applications from all aspects of transmissions - plus the chance to put alternative drive technologies through their paces in series production and demonstration vehicles. Over 20 vehicles are lined up, including the American luxury electric car Cadillac ELR, the new Opel Corsa with MTA, the Opel Mokka with AT6 (GF III), a Chevrolet Corvette with MT7, BMW's 2 Series Active Tourer (the company's first van and front-wheel-drive model), a C-Class vehicle with a 1.5l TGDI engine and 7-gear Wet DCT by Chinese manufacturer Changan, the new Mercedes-Benz CLS with 9G-TRONIC, a Nissan Qashqai 2l diesel with CVT transmission by Jatco, the new Mazda2 with 1.5l Skyactive engine (not yet available in Europe), and a Volvo V60 D6 AWD (Plug-in Hybrid). In the truck sector, vehicles include a CNH Magnum CVX, a delivery van with Chain CVT from developers Gear Chain Industrial, and a platform with the HyRange Fuel Cell concept by Proton. Transmission Expo 2014 CTI Transmission Expo is Europe's leading specialist exhibition for automotive transmissions, HEV and EV. With 120 exhibitors from 14 countries, the Berlin Transmission Expo is bigger and more international than ever. Participants can learn more about products and services from companies including AVL List, BorgWarner, Bosch, Castrol, Continental, Daimler, Diehl, GETRAG, Jatco, Kyowa, Magna, Michigan Spring and Stamping, Petronas and Ricardo.
