KfW IPEX-Bank finances energy efficiency for hospitals
Frankfurt am Main (ots)
- Environmental loan for new building of hospital "Wesermarsch-Klinik" in Nordenham, Germany - Funds provided from KfW Energy Efficiency Programme
KfW IPEX-Bank is contributing a loan of around EUR 23 million to the financing of the new building of the "Wesermarschklinik" Hospital in Nordenham, Lower Saxony, which is part of the hospital service provider Rhön-Klinikum AG. The three-storey building complex will be equipped with 153 beds for basic and standard care.
The new building's primary energy consumption will be more than 30% lower than that of a similar reference building. The energy concept is characterised by particularly high efficiency. To account for the particular ground conditions, for example, it will be built on pile foundations. In this design, piles set in the ground can also be used to draw and store geothermal heat, contributing in this way to the base load temperature control of the building. The overall energy concept meets the stringent criteria of the KfW Environmental and Energy-Efficiency Programme, enabling funds to be made available from this programme.
Markus Scheer, the responsible member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank, welcomed the successful closing of the transaction. "We are pleased that this financing allows us to contribute both to the delivery of healthcare in the region and to energy efficiency. Financing investments in social infrastructure is as much a part of our core business area as financing environmental and climate protection measures."
Listed on the stock exchange, Rhön-Klinikum AG is one of Germany's biggest private hospital groups. It employs some 43,000 workers in 54 hospitals across Germany, delivering healthcare to more than 2.2 million patients every year.
