KfW IPEX-Bank finances infrastructure for Düsseldorf Airport

Frankfurt am Main (ots)

   - EUR 50 million loan for Germany's third largest airport
   - Bank supports modernisation of infrastructure
   - Measures to enable handling of large aircraft

KfW IPEX-Bank is providing a EUR 50 million loan to allow Düsseldorf Airport to modernise its infrastructure. The airport operator will use the funds to introduce safety measures, optimise turnaround processes and improve energy efficiency. When the contract was signed, Christian K. Murach, member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank, underscored the importance of the measures. "For a hub to be successful at international level it needs state-of-the-art, efficient infrastructure. The support provided by our financing directly serves the strategic interests of ensuring the continuing development of Düsseldorf Airport as a business concern. And one of the core business areas of KfW IPEX-Bank is to offer our structuring expertise to support forward-looking investment in infrastructure."

The investment measures in Düsseldorf include renewing the fire rescue routes as well as the lighting systems to ensure that widebody aircraft can be handled safely. They further include optimising route planning along gate B and completely rebuilding taxiway L7. The power supply will also be upgraded to bring it in line with the demands of new aircraft types during standing and turnaround times on the ground.

The gateway to North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous federal state, Düsseldorf Airport is one of the country's most important transport hubs.
