Direct Flights from London and Dublin to Leipzig

Leipzig/Halle Airport, otherwise well-known as a cargo hub, welcomes back a familiar direct connection in their winter flight schedule that will make the hearts of fans from the UK and Ireland beat faster. From 4 November 2022, Ryanair will be taking off from London (Stansted) to Leipzig/Halle, the flights from Dublin to Leipzig/Halle started two days ago. The scheduled flights from Dublin will be offered twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. Flights from London will be three times a week, on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays – making Leipzig a perfect long weekend travel destination.

Discovering Leipzig in the Christmas Season

This news not only heralds the holiday months, but also offers the opportunity to come to Leipzig to celebrate and enjoy the Christmas season. From the airport, it takes less than 15 minutes to arrive in the city center by train and take in the glowing city of culture and music. The cold season in Leipzig offers a great diversity of museums ranging from musical personalities to modern art and history. The authentic places of the Peaceful Revolution of 1989 like St Nicolas Church can be visited all year round as well as Europe’s tallest Monument to the Battle of the Nations with a stunning view from the platform. Leipzig offers an excellent shopping atmosphere in the unique arcades system combined with admirable architecture and a pedestrian friendly city center. The Christmas market opens on 22 November 2022 and its cosy atmosphere with mulled wine and regional specialties can be experienced until 23 December 2022. Last but not least there is a great variety of high quality classical concerts, varieté shows and ballet evenings to visit and a lively nightlife without curfew to enjoy.

These include Richard Wagner, a native Leipzig, Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Clara and Robert Schumann, Edvard Grieg and many others.

Must-sees in the Leipzig city center include the old Renaissance-style town hall on the market square housing the Leipzig City History Museum, which traces local history. The trade faire city has many typical covered arcades, such as the Mädlerpassage with the famous restaurant Auerbach’s Cellar from Goethe’s Faust scene. Augustusplatz offers a beautiful architectural testimony from the 20th century and includes local landmarks like the new building of the University of Leipzig, founded in 1409, the concert hall of the Gewandhausorchester, the largest professional orchestra in the world, and the Oper Leipzig, one of the oldest opera houses in Europe.

Leipzig is also rich in street art, for lovers of urban culture. Many places have even been redeveloped to give artists a voice, especially in the Spinnerei district, a former industrial area for cotton production. Today it is home to 11 galleries, exhibition halls and about 100 artist studios. Another example of successfully transforming industrial past into culture is the digital art center named Kunstkraftwerk. Leipzig has established itself as one of the trendiest cities in Europe and the secret recipe seems simple: it is a city of change, always offering new surprises and activities.
