Trade fair announcement: Update for Metro
Update for Metro
“The ring date shows what this caliber is capable of”: Metro neomatik 41 Update is the name of a brand-new watch from NOMOS Glashütte, currently debuting at Watches & Wonders in Geneva.
GLASHÜTTE, APRIL 7, 2021. The iconic model Tangente came first, and now a second renowned NOMOS model is receiving an updated dial. Metro gives its greatest performance to date in this version: Metro neomatik Update—the new watch release currently debuting at the Watches & Wonders trade fair in Geneva.
Set far out around the minute markers, where it is ideally placed, the Update date display ensures that the entire month is always in view. “This design makes specialist watchmaking expertise visible for all to see; a pure representation of what this caliber is capable of,” says NOMOS CEO Uwe Ahrendt.
In 2018, Tangente made its debut featuring the same technology. Metro is a more youthful model, cosmopolitan and modern: The first version of the watch was introduced in 2014 with manual winding. In 2016, the first version to be equipped with the ultra-slender neomatik caliber (DUW 3001) was released. Metro has always had an elegant bezel, similar to Tangente. But where Tangente is angular, this watch has characteristically round features: Metro sits flush on the wrist, its delicately domed sapphire crystal glass slips easily under any shirt cuff. Its wire lugs, the crown with fine diamond knurling (inspired by high-grade watchmaking tools), and the perfect dots of the minute markers are all distinctive features of this timepiece.
The caliber
Just like Tangente Update, Metro Update is powered by the in-house neomatik caliber DUW 6101. The incredibly precise automatic movement has a markedly larger diameter than comparable watch calibers, is ultra slender, and luxuriously decorated with embossed and gold-plated engraving on the rotor—to cite one example. The quick-set date functions in both directions. The Update watches have already received two patents: One for the pioneering date mechanism, the other for the unique date display on the dial, which makes the passage of the entire month visible to the wearer. The watchmaking company’s eleventh caliber and the patents under its name directly result of the immense work conducted by NOMOS' research and development department. “It is the product of generations’ worth of knowledge—and cutting-edge research,” says NOMOS CEO Uwe Ahrendt.
