As part of its reorientation towards the development and marketing of innovative and profitable value-added Internet services, the TELES Group is also developing and securing highly competitive distribution channels for these services, at present particularly for its broadband Internet service skyDSL. The acquisition of the Apple retail chain GRAVIS several months ago marked the first step in this direction. The management board has now decided on a further, similar measure: The takeover of the mainstream wholesaler MORE!. This acquisition is still subject to approval by Teles AG's supervisory board. More detailed information will be published after completion of the takeover.
Whereas Apple retailer GRAVIS achieves over DM 100 million in annual revenues with its 22 sales outlets in all German business centers, the PC accessory wholesaler MORE! services over 6,000 independent outlets throughout Germany, thereby achieving annual revenues of over DM 200 million - in both cases with the low profit margins usual in distributions. The utilization of these outlets for the sale and support of TELES' high-margin value-added Internet services will significantly improve the profitability of both companies.
Lucrative profit margins of the value-added Internet services will, however, be achieved above all by the development and marketing companies within the TELES Group. A further increase in revenues in the near future is now secured through the new distribution channels to the PC and Apple user markets.
An outline of the significance of the new distribution channels for this year's business development of the TELES Group will be included in the group's business report for the 2nd quarter 2000 at www.teles.com (publication expected 1st August 2000).
