Basler AG - the leading provider of artificial vision systems for quality control - is today filing suit at the Mannheim State Court (patent case) against Steag Hamatech AG and Steag Eta Optik GmbH for violations of patent DE 44 34 475. The patent violation relates to a quality assurance process involving image processing that has been in use in scanners from Basler AG since 1994. Basler AG is confident that the court will decide in its favor and anticipates millions in damages stemming from the dispute.
The patent was awarded by the German Patent Office in 1998 following an in-depth examination of the state of the art at the time the patent application was made. Steag Hamatech AG's assertion that the patent protection can be drawn off in the light of the current state of technology is false. Basler AG will use legal means from commercial competition law to take action against this misinterpretation.
The Basler Group, an international high-tech company based in Ahrensburg by Hamburg, is the leading manufacturer of Vision Technology, the technology on which artificial vision systems are based. The systems and components developed by Basler play a key role in the optimization of industrial production processes. As only approximately 10% of all potential applications have been identified so far, the Vision Technology sector offers all the preconditions required for exceptionally good turnover and profit growth.
