Within the scope of the announced acquisition strategy, WEB.DE AG (Karlsruhe), operator of the Internet portal WEB.DE, one of the leading Internet services in Germany, is taking over 100% of System Design GmbH, Nuremberg. System Design GmbH is purchased against WEB.DE AG shares and a cash share. The acquisition will provide WEB.DE with access to ample development resources, successful and innovative products in such areas as eBusiness, eShopping and eCommerce and taps new income sources for the future.
As a matter of priority, WEB.DE is actively addressing additional target groups with large future potential and sales potential by integrating System Design GmbH. Thus, in future, WEB.DE will provide more than 1 million small to mid-sized businesses and so-called SOHOs (Small Office & Home Offices) in Germany with innovative, high-quality solutions for eBusiness and eCommerce. Already now, the share of those committed to WEB.DE using the existing services for professional and commercial purposes is very large.
The expansion of its business area towards "Professional Services" makes WEB.DE stand apart from competitors that focussed on providing Internet access services and mainly procure advertising income within the portal environment.
System Design GmbH has 40 employees featuring special know-how in development and technology. For several years now, the company has successfully concentrated on the integration of eBusiness solutions for small to mid-sized companies. Products such as Workways Webshop and Workways Information Manager are the platform for eCommerce and information management within companies.
The sustained expansion of development resources and the strengthening of the technology and product base, even within the shopping environment of WEB.DE, allow WEB.DE users to benefit from the accelerated launch of new services and the immensely improved range of future services for eBusiness and eCommerce. WEB.DE AG is pursuing a path-breaking portal strategy for the goal-driven expansion of its business area into Professional Services.
