A know-how and licence agreement has been concluded between Degussa AG and LPKF Laser & Electronics AG. With this contract Degussa AG obtains the licence to produce and sell doted cross-linkable PBT granulate (polybutylene terephthalate). For the first time a special doted thermoplastic material is available worldwide for the electronics industry. On the basis of this granulate the surface of thermoplastics can be activated and metallized by a laser system developed and sold by LPKF. The background of this innovative technology is to transfer conductor functions directly onto the inside of the casing. This results in process and cost advantages for the production of three-dimensional parts in the mechanical-electronics and microelectronics industry. The conclusion of the know-how and licence agreement guarantees for the first time the industrial availability of this doted thermoplastic granulate in the market and significantly increases the selling prospects of this LPKF laser technology in the field of 3D-MID. LPKF is currently negotiating on licensing further doted plastics.
