Q ENERGY aims to build 320 MW of clean, green energy in France between 2023 and 2024

Q ENERGY, a leading player in renewable energy, continues its ambitious expansion. Currently, the company has an active pipeline of around 15 GW in Europe. Construction for 320 MW of these will start in France between 2023 and 2024.

With an extensive portfolio of ready-to-build projects, Q ENERGY intends to accelerate the construction and deployment of wind and PV projects across France with the active support of local elected officials and citizens of communities that the company places at the heart of its approach.

In the first quarter of 2023, Q ENERGY has already started building six new projects for a total of 120 MW in France. These projects will provide clean electricity for nearly 120,000 people, or the equivalent of a city like Metz and will help maximize French renewable electricity production over the long term:

  • The repowering of the Souleilla wind farm (24 MW) in the Occitanie region, the first repowering project for Q ENERGY, which is scheduled to be commissioned in autumn 2023.
  • Two wind farms (Croix de Bertault and Croix de l’Erable) and one solar PV power plant (Sablé Rouge) under construction in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region, with a combined capacity of 42 MW. These three new projects, added to the existing portfolio of commissioned projects in the region, bring Q ENERGY’s installed capacity in Nouvelle Aquitaine up to 85 MW.
  • The Le Langrois wind project (24 MW), located in the Grand Est region, which is an extension of the Langres Sud wind farm, developed and built by Q ENERGY, operational since 2010.
  • The Chaume Solar project in the Pays de la Loire region (29 MW), for which was signed a corporate power purchase agreement (cPPA) with the Les Mousquetaires group. It will provide 33 GWh of renewable electricity annually and will thus cover 1.3% of the total annual energy needs of the retail Group, which include more than 3,000 points of sale in France, such as Intermarché and Netto supermarkets, DIY superstores and motoring services, logistic bases, and production units.

Three of these projects (Croix de l’Erable, Croix de Bertault and Le Langrois) with a combined capacity of 49 MW were recently sold to Octopus Energy Generation.

An opportunity to boost economic activities and to generate benefits locally

For all these projects, Q ENERGY gives preference to local and regional service providers and subcontractors, with an average of 30 to 40% of the construction works - earthworks, geotechnical work, concrete supply, substations, cabling and civil engineering - being carried out by companies close to the sites. These construction works, generally spread over several months, generate direct economic benefits at a local level.

Project portfolio projection to H2 2023 and 2024

In the second half of 2023 and early 2024, Q ENERGY is planning to progressively start construction of an additional 200 MW portfolio of various types of projects: PV power plants on polluted areas, the largest floating PV project in France, additional wind repowering projects as well as a first energy storage project.

"These future achievements demonstrate not only the professionalism and the commitment of our teams, but also the dynamism of a promising industry that is actively working to achieve the very ambitious objectives of the PPE. With a portfolio of wind and solar projects under construction of more than 320 MW, which will be commissioned progressively over the next 2 years, Q ENERGY is undoubtedly positioned as a key player in the French renewable energy landscape," said Jean-François PETIT, CEO of Q ENERGY France.
