RENK America to Exploit Hybrid Transmission Technology from QinetiQ through Capability Partnership

Washington D.C., October 15, 2024 – RENK Group AG, a leading supplier of military and civilian propulsion solutions, recently announced a capability partnership to jointly develop future mobility concepts for military land platforms with global defense and security company, QinetiQ. As part of this partnership, RENK Group AG have agreed to progress over 20 years of E-X-Drive® Hybrid Transmission capability development through to the marketplace, completing their portfolio of military hybrid transmissions, giving them a full range of Series and Parallel options.

  • The E-X-Drive® hybrid solution includes the uncrewed ground vehicles (UGV) market under 20 tons.
  • The electro-mechanical architecture is a scalable design.

“The E-X-Drive® hybrid solution is a fantastic addition to the RENK portfolio and recent technology upgrades to battle proven solutions. The electro-mechanical series hybrid approach will complement RENK product offerings in modern combat vehicle platforms across all weight ranges, including the UGV market under 20 tons”, said Dr. Alexander Sagel, COO RENK Group AG.

Will Blamey, Chief Executive, UK Defence, QinetiQ, added: “QinetiQ is delighted to have entered into this arrangement with RENK, a world-leading manufacturer of military vehicle transmissions. We see this as the next step in the development of this technology, and look forward to working together with RENK to address our customers’ future requirements.”

E-X-Drive ® is an expansion of RENK´s existing high-performance portfolio

The E-X-Drive®, developed by QinetiQ, is an advanced electric cross-drive transmission that adds another solution to the existing RENK portfolio of land platform systems.

The technology has been continually developed over several years resulting in the integration of the E-X-Drive® into several prototype combat vehicle platforms. The electro-mechanical architecture is a scalable design that offers a vehicle integrator significantly architecture options for propulsion.

RENK Hybrid Solutions

RENK Group continues to adapt to the increasing requirements of modern land forces in the areas of alternate driveline, fuel efficiency, power generation, digitalization and autonomous driving. RENK has developed a parallel hybrid variant of existing battle proven combat vehicle transmissions at various power ranges. This evolution of a reliable base transmission (EVO product family) adds drive-by-wire, boost power, and silent mobility and is available for vehicle testing today. At the Eurosatory 2024 in June, RENK also presented the world’s first hybrid performance transmission for main battle tanks weighing up to 70 tons, the ATREX.
