DHL Parcel UK übernimmt sechs Elektro-LKW und bereitet Einführung von 30 LNG-Trucks vor

Bonn, London, 12. Dezember 2022: DHL Parcel UK, Teil von DHL eCommerce Solutions, hat sechs Elektro-LKW von Volvo übernommen, die ab Januar 2023 in London eingesetzt werden. Im weiteren Verlauf des Jahres werden dann noch 30 neue LNG-Trucks für die Langstrecke die Flotte ergänzen. Beide Anschaffungen sind Teil eines rund 74 Millionen Euro (64 Millionen Pfund) Investitionsprogramms von DHL Parcel UK in eine nachhaltige Fahrzeugflotte in Großbritannien und stehen im Einklang mit der Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie von Deutsche Post DHL Group. Das Unternehmen nimmt damit einen weiteren wichtigen Schritt Richtung Dekarbonisierung seiner Transport- und Zustellflotte in Großbritannien und dem Ziel von Deutsche Post DHL Group bis 2050 eine Netto-Null-Emissionen Logistik zu erreichen. Auf dem Weg wird der Konzern allein bis 2030 über 7 Milliarden Euro in nachhaltige Kraftstoffe und saubere Technologien investieren. Die Umstellung der DHL Flotte für Abhol-, Zustell- und Linienverkehr auf elektrische Antriebe beziehungsweise nachhaltige Kraftstofflösungen ist dabei ein wichtiger Hebel.

Der Einsatz von emissionsfreien Elektroantrieben bei schweren LKW auf der letzten Meile ist ein wichtiger Schritt auf dem Weg zu unserer Vision von einer Netto-Null-Emissionen Logistik“, so Peter Fuller, CEO von DHL Parcel UK.
Die 16t Volvo FL Elektro-LKW werden jeweils von vier 200 kWh-Batterien gespeist, die eine Reichweite von knapp 200km ermöglichen – bei einer Beladung mit maximal 12 Paletten mit einem Transportgewicht von bis zu 6t. Die Ladung der Akkus erfolgt über Nacht an zentralen Standorten von DHL Parcel in London, sodass sie täglich für Transporte im Stadtzentrum eingesetzt werden können.
Da es sich um emissionsfreie Fahrzeuge handelt, werden sie keinerlei Kohlenstoff- oder Schadstoffemissionen in die Atmosphäre abgeben. Mit ihrer hervorragenden Rundumsicht entsprechen sie außerdem dem 3 Sterne London Direct Vision Standard, der eine Verbesserung der Sicherheit aller Londoner Verkehrsteilnehmer zum Ziel hat.
Sobald die Installation einer Bio-LNG Tankinfrastruktur abgeschlossen ist und die Fahrer in der sicheren Betankung geschult wurden, werden die 30 neuen LNG-Trucks die Fahrzeugflotte am neuen DHL Hub südlich des Flughafens von Coventry ergänzen. Mit einer Reichweite von bis zu 600 Kilometern pro Tankfüllung sollen die LKW für Linienverkehre in ganz Großbritannien eingesetzt werden. Im Betrieb mit Bio-LNG reduziert sich der CO2-Ausstoß der Zugmaschinen um bis zu 85% im Vergleich zu einem konventionellen Dieselmotor bei gleicher Leistung von 460 PS.

Bonn, London, December 12, 2022: DHL Parcel UK has taken delivery of six fully electric 16-tonnes Volvo trucks which will hit the road in London from January 2023 and 30 Liquefied Natural Gas Volvo tractor units which will start going into operation later in the year. Both deployments are part of a €74 million (£64m) UK investment in green heavy fleet in line with Deutsche Post DHL Group’s sustainability strategy. This marks a another important step forward in DHL Parcel UK’s decarbonization plans and Deutsche Post DHL Group’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions logistics by 2050. On the road to achieving this goal, the group will invest over €7 billion (£6 billion) in sustainable fuel and clean technologies by 2030 alone. Converting the DHL fleet for pick-up, delivery and linehauls to either electric drives or sustainable fuel solutions is an important lever in this.

The 16-tonne Volvo FL Electric Rigids are powered by four 200 kWh batteries which can run for 120 miles, carrying a maximum of 12 pallets weighing up to 6 tonnes. These will recharge overnight at strategic DHL Parcel locations in London for daily operations into the city center.
As these are zero emission vehicles, they will not contribute any carbon or harmful emissions into the atmosphere. They will also be 3 star compliant to the London Direct Vision Standard having great all-round visibility and support the safety of all London’s road users.
Once commissioning of the Bio-LNG gas tank is complete and drivers have been trained how to safely re-fuel the 30 new Volvo FM LNG Tractors will be based at the DHL Parcel UK hub in Coventry. With a maximum reach of up to 400 miles per tank, they will be used on routes throughout the UK. When running on Bio-LNG the LNG tractor units emit 85% percent less CO2 emissions compared to a traditional Diesel engine with the same power output (460bhp).
