DHL Express eröffnet neues 84,5 Mio.-Dollar-Drehkreuz in Atlanta

Plantation, Florida/USA, 7. Juli 2023: DHL Express, der weltweit führende Anbieter von Express-Services, hat die Eröffnung seines Drehkreuzes für die Region Amerika am Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) bekannt gegeben. Mit dem Schwerpunkt auf Nachhaltigkeit stärkt die 84,5-Millionen-Dollar-Investition die Verbindungen und Servicekapazitäten des Unternehmens zwischen den USA und den wichtigsten globalen Märkten, erhöht Kapazitäten, verkürzt Transitzeiten und stärkt die Widerstandsfähigkeit des Netzwerks.
Das hochmoderne Drehkreuz mit einer Fläche von 100.000 Quadratmetern stellt Direktverbindungen zwischen 19 Städten im Südosten der USA und wichtigen globalen Märkten her, darunter Europa und zu wichtigen DHL-Drehkreuze weltweit. Für die Zukunft sind weitere Flugverbindungen nach Hongkong, Mexiko, Großbritannien und Puerto Rico geplant.
Das DHL-Drehkreuz in Atlanta setzt auch neue Maßstäbe in Sachen Nachhaltigkeit: Bis zu 50 Prozent des Energieverbrauchs vor Ort werden durch Solarzellen auf dem Dach erzeugt, wodurch jährlich 380 Tonnen CO2-Emissionen vermieden werden. Die restliche Energie, die vor Ort verbraucht wird, stammt aus erneuerbaren Quellen und wird durch Zertifikate für erneuerbare Energien (RECs) abgedeckt, die garantieren, dass der Stromverbrauch keine Emissionen verursacht. Darüber hinaus verfügt der Hub über LED-Beleuchtung, elektrische Gabelstapler, Torabdichtungen und Schnelllauftore, die die Umweltbelastung weiter minimieren.

Das Drehkreuz in Atlanta ist eine vollautomatische Anlage, die mit modernster Technologie ausgestattet ist und bis zu 20.000 Sendungen pro Stunde sortieren kann. Um eine zügige Abfertigung der DHL-Kundensendungen zu gewährleisten, beschäftigt das Drehkreuz eigene Zollmakler und arbeitet mit den Mitarbeitern der US-Zoll- und Grenzschutzbehörde vor Ort zusammen. Darüber hinaus setzt DHL fortschrittliche Technologien zur Erkennung von Bedrohungen und zur Sicherheitsprüfung ein, die den Transport illegaler und gefährlicher Güter im Netzwerk wirksam verhindern.

Plantation, FL/USA: July 7, 2023: DHL Express, the world’s leading provider of express shipping services, has announced the grand opening of its Americas region hub based at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). With a focus on sustainability, the $84.5 million investment further strengthens the company’s connections and service capabilities between the U.S. and key global markets, increasing capacity, speeding transit times, and adding resilience to its network.
Spanning 100,000 square feet, the state-of-the-art hub establishes direct connections between 19 cities in the Southeastern U.S. and key global markets, including Europe and major DHL hubs worldwide. Future plans involve adding flight connections to Hong Kong, Mexico, the UK, and Puerto Rico.
The DHL Atlanta Hub also sets new standards for sustainability, generating up to 50% of its on-site energy consumption through 65,000 sq. ft of rooftop solar panels, preventing the release of 380 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. The remaining energy consumed on-site is sourced from renewable sources through Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), guaranteeing zero emissions from electricity consumption. Moreover, the hub employs environmentally conscious features such as LED lights, electric forklifts, dock seals, and rapid rise doors, further minimizing its environmental impact.

The Atlanta hub operates as a fully automated facility, equipped with cutting-edge technology capable of sorting up to 20,000 pieces per hour. To ensure swift clearance of DHL customer shipments, the hub employs in-house Customs brokers and collaborates with on-site U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel. Additionally, DHL implements advanced threat detection and security screening technologies, effectively preventing the entry of illegal and hazardous commodities into its network.
