DHL Group sichert sich Grünstrom aus Offshore-Windpark von RWE

Bonn, 25. Januar 2024: Die DHL Group hat einen langfristigen Stromliefervertrag mit RWE Supply & Trading für den Kauf von rund 104 Gigawattstunden Strom aus erneuerbaren Energien pro Jahr ab 2026 vereinbart und damit einen weiteren Schritt in Richtung eigener Dekarbonisierungsziele unternommen. Der Strom wird im Kaskasi Offshore-Windpark in der deutschen Nordsee produziert, der seinen Regelbetrieb im Frühjahr 2023 aufgenommen hat. Das Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) zwischen der DHL Group und RWE ist auf zehn Jahre festgelegt. Mit der Energie aus Kaskasi deckt der Konzern etwa 19 Prozent seines aktuellen jährlichen Strombedarfs in Deutschland ab.
Anna Spinelli, Chief Procurement Officer bei der DHL Group sagt: „Der Vertrag mit RWE ist ein weiterer wichtiger Schritt auf unserem Weg zu einer Netto-Null-Emissions-Logistik bis 2050. Die langfristige Vereinbarung mit unserem Energiepartner sichert die glaubwürdige Versorgung mit Ökostrom für unseren Betrieb und ist eine Maßnahme zur Unterstützung der Energiewende. Dies ist ein Beispiel dafür, wie die Förderung proaktiver Lieferantenbeziehungen zu einem nachhaltigeren und positiveren Ökosystem beitragen kann.“
Der Logistikkonzern plant bis 2030 Ausgaben von bis zu sieben Milliarden Euro für Nachhaltigkeitsinitiativen. DHL Group setzt ihren Weg fort, als Vorreiter der Branche die gesamte Logistikkette so nachhaltig wie möglich zu gestalten. Die Nutzung von grünem Strom ist eine der zentralen Maßnahmen zur Reduzierung von Treibhausgasemissionen, dazu zählt auch die Verwendung nachhaltiger Flugzeugkraftstoffe, der Ausbau der Elektroflotte in der Zustellung, die Entwicklung von klimaneutralen Gebäuden sowie der Ausbau des grünen Produktportfolios. Durch den langfristigen Vertrag mit RWE sichert die DHL Gruppe sich Ökostrom zu stabilen Konditionen.

Der Windpark Kaskasi ist RWEs sechster Windpark vor der deutschen Küste. Er befindet sich 35 Kilometer vor der Küste von Helgoland in der deutschen Nordsee und liegt in der Nachbarschaft der RWE-Windparks Amrumbank West und Nordsee Ost. Kaskasi verfügt über 38 Turbinen und eine installierte Kapazität von 342 Megawatt. Damit kann der Windpark rechnerisch rund 400.000 Haushalte mit grünem Strom versorgen. Die Anlage ist zum Teil bereits mit den weltweit ersten recycelbaren Rotorblättern ausgestattet.

Bonn, 25. January, 2024: DHL Group has agreed a long-term electricity supply contract with RWE Supply & Trading for the purchase of around 104 gigawatt-hours of electricity from renewable sources per year from 2026, thus taking a further step towards its own decarbonization targets. The electricity will be produced in the Kaskasi offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, which has been operational since the beginning of 2023. The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between DHL Group and RWE is set for ten years. With the energy from Kaskasi, the company covers approximately 19 percent of its current annual electricity demand in Germany.

DHL Group plans expenditures of up to seven billion euros for sustainability initiatives by 2030. The Group is thus continuing its pioneering efforts to make the entire logistics chain as sustainable as possible. The utilization of green electricity is one of the central measures to reduce Greenhouse emissions, in addition to the use of sustainable fuels, the expansion of the electric fleet, the development of climate-neutral buildings, and the establishment of a green product portfolio. By entering this long-term agreement with RWE, DHL Group has secured high quality electricity from renewable energies together with the corresponding environmental attributes, at stable conditions.

The wind farm Kaskai is RWE's sixth wind farm off the German coast. It is located 35 kilometers off the coast of Helgoland in the German North Sea next to the RWE wind farms Amrumbank West and Nordsee Ost. Kaskasi has 38 turbines and an installed capacity of 342 megawatts, part of the capacity of the plant is not commercially available. megawatts. This means that the wind farm can supply around 400,000 households with green electricity. The plant is already partly equipped with the world's first recyclable rotor blades.
