Brose puts photovoltaic system and e-charging stations into operation in Santa Margarida
Santa Margarida (February 9, 2024). Brose has set itself the goal of covering its electricity requirements at all locations with renewable energies from 2025. In addition to measures to increase energy efficiency and the purchase of green electricity, the automotive supplier is focusing on expanding its own photovoltaic systems. A system on a total area of more than 9,000 square meters and six charging stations for electric cars were put into operation at the Santa Margarida site in Spain.
Sustainability is one of the overarching goals of Brose's strategy. The emission-free operation of all locations from 2025 is an important milestone on the way to becoming a CO2-neutral company by 2039. The electricity requirement is then to be covered entirely by renewable energies, 5.5 percent of which will come from the company's own photovoltaic systems. The system, installed in January on the roof of the production hall in Santa Margarida, has a peak output of 625 kilowatt peak. This corresponds to around 1,300 megawatt hours per year, which means it can cover around 43 percent of the site's electricity needs.
Contributing to sustainable mobility
The electricity generated is also used to power six charging stations for electric cars, which have been installed at the end of last year. By this, the family-owned company enables its employees to charge their electric vehicles conveniently during working hours. This project was implemented as part of the MOVES* government funding program for efficient and sustainable mobility.
* Plan MOVES: Project under the Efficient and Sustainable Mobility Incentive Program 2021, as part of the EU-funded Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan - NextGenerationEU.
