As of November 15, 2018, Ivonne Marschall (41) will be in charge the English language service of dpa international. She will be taking over from Marco Mierke as head of the German Press Agency dpa's English language service. Marschall has worked for the English service before in various locations. The 41-year-old Austrian has been head of the Foreign Services Desk of dpa English Services for the last two years. Marschall will be in charge of dpa international's English-language reporting and of the editorial offices in Berlin and Sydney. The English language service provides dpa customers worldwide and around the clock with the latest news, features and analyses in English.

Ivonne Marschall studied translation sciences (German/English/Japanese) and political sciences at the University of Vienna and started working as an agency reporter with the Japanese news agency Kyodo as a student. She covered Austria and the international organizations in the country, Eastern Europe and the Balkans. She joined the team of dpa international in early 2007 as a correspondent for the English service in Vienna. From 2008 onwards she worked for three years as an editor on the English service's Asia desk in Bangkok. In 2011 she moved to Berlin as part of the founding team of the newly established Foreign Services Desk (fsd) in the main dpa newsroom. She has headed that unit since 2017. Ivonne Marschall was one of the first graduates of dpa-steps, a programme for future leadership within dpa in 2015/16 (word order).

"Ivonne Marschall as head of the Foreign Services Desk has made a great contribution to dpa's international and multimedia reporting. She leads the team thoughtfully and is well networked within dpa's departments and editorial desks. With her experience as a correspondent and desk editor for the English service, she is an ideal candidate to succeed Marco Mierke," says dpa Editor-in-Chief Sven Gösmann. "I would like to thank Marco Mierke for his outstanding performance in reorganizing the service and the difficult restructuring during the change from three locations (Berlin-Washington-Bangkok) to two desks in Berlin and Sydney," continues Gösmann.

dpa international is the umbrella brand under which the agency brings together its services distributed outside Germany. In addition to world news services in English, Spanish and Arabic, this includes the dpa-Europadienst in German and service and consumer news as well as feature services. dpa has been reporting in English with its own network of correspondents from all over the world since 1957.
